Inka special!

[Maya & Inka's mommy]

Inka is our problem-cat. She is disabled since birth. The vets found out that there is a disorder in her "small brains". Because of this, Inka has almost no balance, her four paws are not moving synchrinised. Sometimes, her little head is shaking just like a person who has Parkinson. This makes her jump to high or to low, make salto's whenever she tries to run. In fact it is oh so funny to see her run in the garden. Luckily, she has no pain. It is a happy little cat!!! She even is our "alpha-cat": the boss of the cat-household :D :D .

Lut, it is so good to get to see pictures of Inka! She is so beautiful! She certainly does act like she is the boss of your house! I love that picture where she is sleeping! Fact is I loved all the pictures!

I was wondering how Inky Pinky was doing with her disability. In the time that you were gone, we've had some members join who have cats who I think might have the same type of disability as Inka - only worse. I can't think of the word for it now, but Queenscoopalot has at least one kitty that has this, and Laurasbabies Amy has it. If I remember right it comes from the mother having distemper while she is pregnant - which could have very well been the case with Inka since you found her in that field and who knows who or where her mother was.

I'm sorry to hear she is still affected by the symptoms, but in all the pics you show she looks like the happy little Alfa girl that you describe, and there's no way we would even guess that she has any type of "disability" at all.

I'll see if I can find the name of what the other cats have that I mentioned. I know there is a website or Yahoo group or something that deals just in cats and owners that are dealing with this.....maybe it will help you understand a little better what she has.

Oops, forgot to mention how adorable Inka is. She has really turned into a real beauty! :D

Sounds like she has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH.) I have a CH kitty named Diva who's 8 years old now, and definitely the queen kitty. There's groups for CH cat owners; Queen Scoopalot knows of these.

WOW!!! Inka is absolutely stunning! I'd never guess that she ever had a health problem at all! She's sure a pretty kitty!!!

Thanks for the research! We always knew what was wrong with our sweetie, but we didn't know a name for this illness.Non that we have, we will try to read all we can about it on the internet!

This is a little text, explaining the illness in short:

Cerebellar hypoplasia

The cerebellum is the portion of the brain responsible for the control of motion. When a puppy or kitten is born with an underdeveloped cerebellum, the condition is known as congenital cerebellar hypoplasia. There are infectious causes of this condition in both cats (panleukopenia infection prior to birth) and dogs (herpes virus infection prior to birth). Improper development of the cerebellum may occur due to injury, poisoning or just from an accident in development in the uterus. It is generally possible to see signs of this condition almost as soon as the puppy or kitten is born. Affected animals have tremors and unusual jerky movements or may fall down when they try to move. The symptoms do not get worse as they age. As the kitten or puppy grows it will learn to compensate for its condition but there are usually lifelong signs of a decreased ability to coordinate movement. Almost all dogs and cats with congenital cerebellar hypoplasia can live happily as pets with a little special care to compensate for their disabilities. This condition can be confused with cerebellar abiotrophy, a different disorder in dogs in which the puppy has a normal cerebellum at birth but it gradually dies. Signs of disease identical to cerebellar hypoplasia occur but the timing is different. Puppies with this condition seem normal at birth but usually start to show signs of problems after they are 2 months or more of age.

What a BEAUTY!!! I love her markings and she has the most incredible eyes! After living with Magoo I am in absolute awe of cats with disabilities. They know no bounderies and it doesn't slow them down at all! Oh the things we can learn from these very special creatures.:)
