To Max the Possum's people: You can't just release Max and his sister without properly, gradually introducing them into the wild. The main problem is that they don't know enough to be afraid of people. Also, even if they have some wild instincts, they know nothing about living in the wild. They will be a prey to every animal and human with a gun who shows up.
Find your local Wildlife Rehabilitator or wildlife refuge. They are licensed by the state. Make sure, however that they're reputable. These people are trained in methods of properly undomesticating animals so that they can be released into the wild with a hope of survival.
