Can you believe this? I went to pick Nilla up this afternoon and they told me she had already been spayed before, and they couldn't find the scar, so they didn't find out until they opened her up. Luckilly, it was a low-cost spay neuter clinic, but I still had to pay $65 for the anesthesia. I can't believe she had to go through that again. We checked her for a scar too, beforehand, and couldn't find one, so I can see how they missed it. Poor baby. She's doing fine, just a little groggy. At least we now KNOW FOR SURE she will never become pregnant (but she wouldn't have anyway because she is now an inside dog).

The owners who had her obviously had her chained out because she was dragging a well-worn chain when we found her - I just hope she is happier with us.

Wow, poor Nilla.:( I hope she's feeling better soon.I had that
happen with a stray cat that I trapped after feeding her for a few
weeks. The Vet couldn't locate any scar before the surgery, but
sure enough she had been spayed.

Oh, poor Nilla!! :( At least she won't have that recuperation period. That's too bad that they couldn't tell she was already spayed.

Poor baby,
When I adopted my poodle/terrier mix we had
to pay for her spay before we could pick her
up from the pound.
On the day of the spay their vet noticed she had a scar
and said she had already
been spayed. Thank goodness a scar showed or
she would have gone through what poor Nilla did.

Rocky and Sheba sending many get
well wishes.

Poor Nilla. :( She looks like a sweetie, and looks quite young as well. She'll probably be feeling back to herself in a day or two. Give her some extra treats for me please. ;)

Ahhh... poor baby!:(

What a shock that had to be for you to hear that from the vet!!
I'm sure I would have said something silly like "Are you Sure?":o

I hope she's feeling better soon!!

Nilla is doing fine today, thanks for everyone's well wishes. They tattooed a big S on her belly so there won't be any question in the future about her spay status. We had hoped that spaying would calm her down a bit, but now know that when the anesthesia wears off, she will be back to her completely-wide-open self! Here's a couple of pictures that i posted in the Cat place - I'm there more than here, but maybe that's about to change! ;)

She is so sweet, and I know she will be just fine, but I hate that she had to go through this unnecessarily. But who could know? Some friends of mine had both of their dogs disappear one day and ended up finding them at the pound. One of them had been adopted from the pound and spayed at that time, but with no sort of identification in the form of a microchip or tattoo, they had no way to know that she had already been spayed and they tried to do it again! (I do not condone the way that my "friends" handle their dogs and cats, by the way.....they should have never been in the pound's hands long enough for that to even happen)

This speaks volumes as to why tattooing or microchipping can and will work! Unfortunately, funding is the problem.

Hope Nilla will be just fine and happy from now on!!! :)

Poor Nilla! But I'm glad that she is recovering well. And that tatoo idea is wonderful! I'm sure that would prevent many of these incidents if it was done more often.

My Bailey went through the same thing. I felt horrible for a long time after that. :( The vet at the clinic got mad at me because I should've known she had already been spayed. Two vets had previously looked at her and said she hadn't.

Oh, that is so sad! I just had Pippi spayed and I would hate for her to have ever be cut open again whether they took anything out or not! What a cutie Nilla is! And she sure looks happy to be with you and your family! Lucky girl!
