(This actually happened a few days ago but I was too busy sorting it out to post about it!)

This is a bag of dog treats:

This is what the treats normally look like:

This is what they looked like in the new bag my sister bought:

Yep, that's mold

As you can imagine, I was (and still am) furious. Bare in mind this was a brand new bag and according to the sell by date (which I checked as soon as I noticed) should have been perfectly fresh. I couldn't believe it! The worst thing was my sister had already opened the bag and given them a treat each. :( Don't ask me how she didn't notice, I don't know. She felt really bad afterwards - luckily the treats at the very top of the bag seemed to be ok, and the dogs haven't gotten sick from them, thank goD.

Anyway, as soon as I found out I rang the store. (poor woman on the other end of the phone, i feel sorry for her having to try and calm me down!) The first thing she asked me was if it was a 3kg bag (it was) and she said she'd had about 8 other people ring up with the same complaint! It turns out the store had already contacted the maufacturing company who had admitted to sending a bad batch.

I assume they're refunding the store, because they've given us a free replacement bag. No problems with this one I'm glad to say, although I don't think I'll be buying this brand of treats again, I'll be too paranoid everytime I open the bag.

I'm still angry, but I'm just glad I noticed when I did, and that the dogs didn't get sick from them. I guess there's no real moral to this story, except that even checking the sell by date and getting the so say 'freshest' bag doesn't garuntee you anything - I know I'll be looking a lot more carefully next time I buy treats!

On a lighter note, this is our new kitchen floor, modelled by Squid! I don't know how many of you remember the disgusting stinky carpet, but this is definitely a big improvement :D

I completely understand your anger!

I actually work in PetSmart and have seen this happen a few times, where companies have 'bad batches' because they simply did not add something to it...

It really should not happen... And unfortunately not everyone is as forgiving as you are to the store where you purchased it...

Glad there have been no ill effects to your pooches!

First I just want to say if the store had already had 8 complaints why didn't they pull all the bags off the shelf....why would they keep possibly bad stock around for others to buy!
Unbelievable:rolleyes:

I'm just happy that they didn't get sick from them. I really would have been so angry too. It's getting so it's not safe to buy anything in a bag.

Your new floor looks really nice and the furbaby seems to like it too!:D

Take care

I think the complaints were all made on the same day as I rang up, but don't quote me on that.

My sister bought the bag, I don't know why she didn't notice, probably too distracted by the bunnies or something  In her defence the moldy ones were mainly in the middle of the bag (that first pic is the actual bag with the moldy treats in, and as you can see they look ok from the outside) but still, I'm surprised not only she, but the people who work there, didn't notice, you'd have thought whoever stacked the shelves would have seen it

It didn't :) My sister really is like that when she's at the pet store - "ooh, a bunny - ooh, a chinchilla - ooh, look at that bird!"  I'm surprised she even managed to find the dog food aisle. Which is why I don't go shopping with her. ;)

Seriously though, I am shocked and angry that neither the maufacturers, store workers, or my sister noticed  I'm just glad I did :)

Of course, Amy, show off your nice kitchen floor with the nicer darker grout, instead of the lighter grout like mine. :p

Yuck.. I toldya how I felt about that. I think i'd refuse to buy from that store ever again.. but then again it's kinda hard no too since you guys are limited on treats and all over there.

How disgusting. I would have done the same thing, Amy.

I think it is best not to buy that brand again. My boys (Prince especially) love Jumbones. I also get them Greenies - although they are quite spendy.

And, I must add, that Squid is such a cutie-patootie! *Kisses* to him!!!

Oh Amy, I'd be royally pi$$ed at everyone involved!

Poor pups. :( Hopefully no one will get the poops or anything, especially poor Toby, I think he's had enough bad stuff lately. :(

As to the floor, I love it! And that little Squiddy is too cute! :D

Shhh! What are you talking about, the lighter grout looks better anyway, silly! :p

I will be getting a different brand, not sure what yet, will have a look tomorrow probably. We don't have as many different types of treats here as you guys do though! Greenies sound really cool, but we don't have them here, or if we do I can't find them anywhere. I'll have to shop around though, and find something new for my pupsters to try :D

Amy, you can get the greenies from this UK website.

http://www.judgeschoice.co.uk/greenies/default.asp

And there are lots of other UK pet websites out there where you can get different treats, chews, and other stuff too. :)
