Mutt Show Toledo 2/26/05

Anyone interested? I'll post more about it later, but it was fun last year.

Here's a little more about it:

Enter your beloved mixed-breed dog in the second annual GREAT AMERICAN MUTT SHOW, TOLEDO, which will be held February 26, 2005 at the SeaGate Center. Come with or without your pet to watch the fun, as mixed breeds finally get their day in the sun. Our last year's Best In Show winner, "Tricky" went on to claim the national ribbon. Food, contests, vendors and friendly competition await you. Cost to enter your dog is $20. Cost for Spectators is $5 for adults, $3 for escorted children 14 and under, free for children 3 and under. Now that I have a few more minutes, and I am not at work, I can add a little more (what I posted before was from the humane society website)


The Mutt Show is a regional dog show. The local winners used to go to New York to compete inthe National Mutt Show, but in the past few years, they have been doing the competion online.

Our local show was alot of fun last year. Amy was here for a Pet Talk meeting, and Nebo got to participate in some of the "fun" contests, like popcorn catching. (So yes, purebred dogs are welcome as well :) ) My parents also came up to go to the show.

The way the show is run, is they have "mostly" categories...mostly lab, mostly shepherd, mostly hound, etc. They also have mostly mutt, for the true Heinz-57. In each category the award prizes for the dogs that look most like the breed and the least like a breed. All these wimmers comete for Best In Show. Last year I showed Sadie, this year I may show Cincy...haven't decided yet.

Last year, like I said before, they had many fun contests too...popcorn catching, best trick, doggy sit-ups etc.

I know weather maybe trick in Ohio come February, but if anyone is able to make it, it should be alot of fun!

I doubt my parents would allow me to go on another trip so close to my Utah one. I do think we'll possibly be coming for summer though.. possibly!

I know this is still a ways off, but I wanted to bump it up so it is at least on the page if you only have "the last 30 days" showing and because I just got an email copy of the registration form. Thisis only if you want to show your mutt...anyone can come and bring your dog, but to show off your mutt, it is $20.

The categories are:

Mostly Terrier
Mostly Lab
Mostly Spaniel Mostly Toy
Mostly Hound Mystery Breed
Mostly Collie Mostly Shepard

I found out the show is from 10-2. I think Ralph and I are doing a vaudeville sow that night, so it should work out well for us to be there during the day. Hope at least a few PTers (and their pups) can make it!!

I just found out last night, they have decided to add a "meet the breed" for the purebred dogs. If anyone who may want to come, wants to show your purebred (esp. if it is a more rare breed), I can get more info on that! ( From my understanding there would be no entry fee for that, and you would get in free!)

This really sounds interesting, I'm going to put it in my date book and see how it pans out. Even though she would just be a bystander, I'm not sure about bringing Gabbie. It might be best to go without her.

I emailed the person in charge of it, and asked some questions, but got very little in response. I will see her a week from tomorrow, so I can find out more then, but I mentioned that I might be able to get people with an Airedale, a golden and a English Mastiff and husky insterested, if she needed those breeds. Hopefully I can find out more, when I talk to her face to face.

A little more about the purebred "Mee the Breed" portion f the show...

Basically they will have a table, like a vendor booth, and are asking people to take 1/2-1 hour shifts. You sit there with your dog nad answer any questions people may have about your breed. I thought they were doing more of a showing of the breeds, but now it isn't sounds in like that. Anway, if anyone would like to do that, there are guest passes available for free admission.

That is sorta of what I thought. Unfortunately, I am sorta stuck helping at the MASh table, but I am trying to take as much of the early shift as I can, so I can be free by the time to competitions and stuff starts!

Since I signed Kia up for the competition, we have to be there by 9:30 a.m. :eek: Andy and I are not morning people. ;) :rolleyes:

It's over an hour and a half drive and that's if the weather and traffic behave.

So we just figured it'd be easier to stay the night. We only booked a room for Friday night. We'll be heading home after the Mutt Show.

We're staying at the Radisson which is connected to the convention center. :)

That same question was asked at our therapy dog meeting, and their will be indoor potty areas! Not sure if those will be sandy areas of artifical turf, but they will have somewhere warm and nearby to take care of business!!

I got a letter in the mail from the THS and they recieved Kia's application. The 'Mostly Snow Dog' event is in Ring #2 at Noon. :)

Not sure if it will be live or or tape delay, but our local Cable station Buckeye Cable Sports Net, will be showing Best in show...maybe PT dogs can run the show....Cinder?, Smoke? mostly shepherd? Bowser? Mostly mutt? Anyone else?

I take it you are driving up on Saturday. I am riding with Diana and Taggert - do you want to meet at her house or a rest area somewhere around Findlay to follow us?
I am not sure when we are leaving I told her those of us who are 'bumming' a ride have no choice when the bus leaves. She sez "GO" we "GO"! ;)

Keegan got her bath today so she is ready to go she just has to pick out a bandana! :D

Yeah, Anna! I'm glad you are going to be able to make it!! Robin, I wish you could come too! We will have to take tons of pictures for you!

If I understand the schedule right, the "breed" competition runs from 10:30 until 12:30 or 1. Then they have the "fun contests" until 2. That is when they have Best in Show.

I will be at the show by 8:30, with Cincy and Taggert (he is staying up here so mom and Staci don't have to leave quite so early). Ralph will stay home longer and then bring Sadie and Spot. I don't know what time yet Mostly lab or mostly Terrier compete. I cam PM anyone both my cell phone and our home number in case you need to try and find us.

I also don't know where the K9 MASH table will be, but we do have a good sized sign and picture boards. Maybe we can try to meet there between 10 and 10:30 and figure where to go from there?

My son's gonna be here Fri-Sat with his sibe too...hmmm...I'm supposed to go take a "practice test" at the university at 1, but maybe I'll reconsider. This sounds like it would really be fun! Latest update...the K9 MASH booth is supposed to be right behind the "Meet the Breed" and it is supposed to be visable right when you come in the door. So far, there are 126 dogs signed up for the various breed categories, and 45 vendors expected.

Guess we will see what that means....

(I think my son's very frustrated with his dog right now, he's got a 7-mo old husky that gets tied up outside all day while he works, and the neighbors are complaining about the dog howling for hours on end. I was afraid this would happen. But at least Cloud will get to come & play with Star and Sherman this weekend.)

Well I've finally got my pictures uploaded. Needless to say they aren't all that good, but there were SO many people it was so hard to get good pictures.

First a little bit on how much fun we had.

We got to meet the now famous Bowzer! He's soooooo cute & much smaller than I had imagined he was. He sure seemed to be happy having Phred as his daddy and Cinder & Smoke didn't seem to mind him tagging along at all:) He was quite the little lover guy! I didn't get too many great pictures of him but I think Staci did.

Our very own Kia won 1st place the "Mostly Snow Dog"!! Congrats Kia girl! And man, you should see all the goodies she got for winning...she banked on the treats & goodies:D
Cincy & Taggert both participated in the "Mostly Lab" & "Mostly Terrier" competitions and got some nice little goodies of their own:)

There were tons of vendors and doggie treats and toys to be bought (and boy did we do our fair share of treat buying:o )! There was something for everyone. Lots of little kids loving on all the dogs & grown ups as well, no one was ever starving for attention!

Around 2 Diana, Staci, Mark & I along with all the furries got some chow and went over to Diana's sisters house (thanks so much;)). All the doggies had a great time romping in their spacious back yard. After being such good pups at the show, they needed to get some of that energy worked off!

Well anyway that's my version of the day. I'm sure others will share when they are able.

Yup we are an exhausted DUO tonite. Headed to bed righty way here.
I took about 139 pics altotogether. From the Mutt show to Julie's house to Diana's house.
It was fun. Tiring. Great to see everyone and laugh and chat with everyone. Lose people in the parking lot and drive thru the fake Burger King Drive thru.... :p Ohhh I tell ya most of my mascara was wiped off by the time we got to Julie's house!!!

We're home too!! (Actually, we got home long ago, but had to run back out the door to a charity vaudeville comedy show Ralph and I were doing tonight)...

Anyway, thanks everybody for coming!! The dogs were excited to see their freinds again!! As Anna, said Cincy and Taggert both participated, and did well even though made the short list, but neither placed, but they had fun and were very good! And of course we cheered hard for Kia!!!

They also had a pet psychic there, and Ralph and I took our three over to chat. He said they are very bonded and very "all for one and one for all" He said thae usually when he enters into a animals emotional space, he is hearing their issues and problems, but with our, they are all very happy and healthy and and feel they are treated equally. There is no jealousy between them. He also said it was such happy and pleasnt experience for him, he didn't want to charge us for the reading.

I'll check out my pictures and see what I can upload either tonight or tomorrow...but I was pretty busy and didn't take many :(

Hey gang! Sorry I didn't check in sooner. I totally forgot Andy's computer is on the fritz...so I had to wait till Monday.

Despite my little fender bender :o on the way to Andy's we had a great time! I brought my camera to work but forgot the cable to download pictures! :o :rolleyes:

I guess my mind has been other places.

I'll go thru the albumns now and will hopefully have my own pictures to share soon. :)
