Now that Photobucket has gone and revised their policy... what other hosting site is out there that will allow you to link photos?

I don't want to go back to Imagestation because of the threat to have them delete my account.

revised their policy?

Yes, Photobucket revised (is the polite way of saying it) their policies by making what used to be free and now you have to pay $30 for a year's worth of service. I can't afford even a dollar right now. I need free.

That's the one I've been using for over two years now. Hope they don't get bombarded and change their rules too!

Thanks! Shutterfly is the one I was thinking of.

That's the problem, isn't it? If a site becomes massively popular, it must become more difficult to run without charging.

So far photobucket hasn't caused me any problems. I added 2 more today and it was ok. I certainly am not going to pay any website to store my pics.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v367/pamelagraves/carebearpillow.jpg

Those sites all make their money off of people who truly use their photo services, like ordering prints, enlargements, special items, cards, etc. I know I am guilty of not doing that very often with my digital pictures! :o We've all experienced several who changed their policies eventually for either album size or cross posting. Webshots and Photogra are the two that come to mind right away.

Don't bother with photoisland. The site is being taken down permanently on November 22. If you have pics stored there, they have an easy download tool up right now.

Does shutterfly work? Is there a limit on the space you can have?

Does everyone have to pay to use photobucket now? I didn't hear of that until now.

As far as I know, if you have a free account on Photobucket, it still is free. Now though, there is a limit on bandwith usage *the number of images you can direct link* and storage space. I think the space limit is 25 mb and bandwidth use is limited to 1500 mb a month.

I think this was posted before, but to clarify what photobucket defines as bandwidth:

Bandwidth in Photobucket terms is a measure of the number of bytes passed over time via direct linking, etc. It is calculated by adding up the size of each of your images as they are sent from Photobucket. Example: You have various images of 25K each in size - they are viewed by by 100 users on your favorite message board in one day. 25K * 100 requests = 2500K (or 2.5M) of bandwidth used in one day.

Your bandwidth isn't used unless someone opens a page where your image is displayed. However, since most people host sigs on photobucket, the bandwidth can be used up pretty quickly as even you viewing your own thread, or threads you've posted on deducts from your bandwidth. Say your sig is small, 25k like in the example. You post perhaps 10 replies/new threads in one day. Thats .25 off of your bandwidth per day just because of you having a sig! This may not sound like much but it still can cause a problem, especially if you like to post lots of pictures! Anyone viewing a thread you've replied to eats bandwidth equal to your signature.

Grrrr the more I think about this the madder I get. This seems like a hidious bandwidth limit, but its a trend most photo hosts are following because it costs so much to run a site of this type. They are basically trying to cornhole people into buying the premium pack...soon though enough people are going to buy it and then they will bandwidth limit them (most servers have bandwidth limits, even if you are running your own ISP you still run into bottlenecks if too much information runs through per day.)

Sorry for the technical rant. :p Hope this helps explain some of this to you all!
