Hi Richard,

I will stop by for a quicky DRINK. The Sunset Cooler sounds nice, but it is drizzling and miserable here right now so I think I would like something a little warmer. Can you do a hot chocolate with a shot of Frangelico? (yes I need the alcohol today...)

If you'll add some vodka to mine, too, that would be great! I just got back from my break at Wal Mart and I'm burning up! Hank McTruck's air conditioning doesn't work well so I feel like I don't even have any. Need something to cool me off. Lots of ice please. Hello everyone!

KK - that sounds absolutely dreary! I do know that the weather has made the kitties be much nicer to me.

Richard - a nekkid beer sounds good.

I like the sound of that drink, Richard! :) I'll take one, right away!!

I mentioned in an another thread that we will have a vote in SC on Nov. 2 regarding our constitutional requirement for mini bottles. Did you know that SC is the only state in the entire US that requires mini bottles in bars and restaurants? I figure that one Thursday ought to be spent here in SC to get those stronger drinks before the law changes to free pour liquor drinks. Statistics say that each mixed drink in SC has 1.7 ounces of liquor (unless it is a White Russion or something like that which would have TWICE the liquor) versus the national average of 1 ounce in states that have free pour. Don't you all want to come to SC next Thursday and celebrate the mini bottle one more time before it goes away? I'm assuming that the constitutional amendment will pass, of course. The only place you can get mini bottles is on an airplane or in the great state of SC, where you can get really, really strong drinks, six days out of the week (no liquor sold in SC on Sunday, except in some cities where there have been special votes to allow restaurants and bars to serve them if they buy a special license).

It Never Rains In Southern California
( Albert Hammond )

Got on board a westbound seven forty-seven
Didn't think before deciding what to do
Ooh, that talk of opportunities, TV breaks and movies
Rang true, sure rang true ...

Seems it never rains in southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California, but girl, don't they warn ya?
It pours, man, it pours

I'm out of work, I'm out of my head
Out of self respect, I'm out of bread
I'm underloved, I'm underfed, I wanna go home
It never rains in California, but girl, don't they warn ya?
It pours, man, it pours

Will you tell the folks back home I nearly made it?
Had offers but didn't know which one to take
Please don't tell 'em how you found me
Don't tell 'em how you found me
Gimme a break, give me a break

Seems it never rains in southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California, but girl, don't they warn ya?
It pours, man, it pours

LIES!! ALL LIES!! Only the very last line is TRUE!

Richard, I will be back at 5 for one of the Daily Specials with a bit of Vodka added, please!

OK, here you go. It says "garnish with a flag" so I gave you both. Enjoy! Excuse me while I go out back and cut some or applewood for the fire. Tomorrow is "Thirsdy" and I need to make sure there is enough for the whole day.

10-21-2004, 06:24 AM
Well, since I'm first here, Slick, I'll get that applewood fire going. Thanks for cutting all that wood! Good grief, there are a lot of cats in here! Is it the combination of rotten weather and a blazing fire?

I hope you have a great time next Tuesday! Yes, I'd LOVE to come, but I have to work that day!! I'll be there is spirit. :D

So, we might be having another "field trip" next Thursday? I'll be packed and ready. :D

10-21-2004, 06:37 AM
Hey, KK! I'll give you a hand getting the fire started. Maybe we can get some coffee brewing. Gee, it's damp and chilly, just like Pittsburgh weather right now!

lbaker
10-21-2004, 08:23 AM
Coffee you say?? Real strong and warm... just how I like 'em ;) Cold, damp, dank... YUK. I know we aren't the only ones but sheez Louise - they don't have fire places here at work. How rude. I think a splash of Kahlua in that coffee would goooo ohhhh sooooo well right now. How about some buttermilk bisquits, fried ham and red-eye gravy! mmmmm-GOOD!! My brother and his best buddy are flying in from So Cal this afternoon and appear to be going out of the frying pan into the fire (as it were). Actually I think they will welcome a real toasty fire in the living room with a bunch of dogs and cats to admire! See you all later...

Good grief guys, you've gotten an early start. Nice fire Karen and David. Thanks.
Laurie, thanks for checking in. We need to keep track of you, you know. :) It's a little too early for me to eat but that food sure sounds great. What is red-eye gravy anyway? Only red-eyes I know are the ones I used to have after a night of drinking. Now those were the days.....
Think I'll set myself down and ease into the morning.
I was thinking that next week I'll stay behind and decorate this bar for Halloween. I've got lots of spider webs and scary stuff that I can hang up. Why not.

Killearn Kitties
10-21-2004, 09:02 AM
Do you people do this just to upset me? What is red-eye gravy? How can I make it when I don't know what it is?

Great coffee David! The little taste of Kahlua helps too. How's the old leg?

davidpizzica
10-21-2004, 09:11 AM
KK, to tell you the truth, I'M not sure what red eyed gravy is either! As for my knee, beginning of november, I can go back to work.(what is work?) Also next sunday I can start bowling again, but I'll take it easy! I think Pittsburgh has the same weather as Scotland!

gini
10-21-2004, 09:56 AM
Oh boy, whoever started that fire is a wonderful person! You all will laugh, but it is 51 here this morning...........and we thin blooded Californian's can't take it! I bet some of that coffee and a splash of the Kahlua would warm up these bones in a hurry.

Slick, I will help you decorate for Halloween. I found a box of sculls in the L & F............they look pretty scary!

Killearn Kitties
10-21-2004, 10:01 AM
Hmm, let's just hope it doesn't have red eyes in it; Slick's or anyone else's!

I'm glad you're almost well enough to go back to work, David. It must be a bit of a thought though. Go easy on the bowling! Don't be lunging too enthusiastically at first.

Should we put some music on? Are you still our DJ? Any 1977 tunes immediately spring to mind?

51!!!! That's still summer weather for me. I'm still wearing shorts and a T up here. :D As a matter of fact, last year I wore shorts all winter.

Exciting day today, my boss is only working half a day and she's bringing in her Great Dane (Kobi) to keep us company. Gotta make sure I get pictures.

Hi DJ: sit by the fire and warm up those joints. Sorry to hear you are in such pain. I'll bet a good strong coffee with "spirits" will help you.

Gini: good idea to check the lost and found, but we should knock before entering....;)

No Pet Talk for days, Willie!! How did you cope?

lbaker
10-21-2004, 12:05 PM
Ham steak is just about done, now for that red-eye gravy! I know it sounds weird but don't knock it if you haven't tried it. It's simply taking the rather thick slice of ham out of the fry pan (one of those old black ones works best) after slicing off some of the fat from around the edges to brown. Pour some strong coffee (YES, coffee) into the pan and scrape the bottom of the pan. Heat up nicely with splash of secret ingredients. Serve over ham and/or maybe some grits with buttermilk bisquits. mmmmmmm good.

Logan
10-21-2004, 12:22 PM
I never knew about the coffee part, Laurie! I know my mom made it, and I just figured she took the grease from the ham, added some flour and maybe water and that was red eye gravy! In fact, it always looked to me like it was just the grease! My dad always "floated" it on the grits!!! Once again, I found the answer, Karen, at www.grits.com!! Here's what they say:

Red Eye Gravy (http://www.grits.com/grit_red.htm)

Here's another:

Red eye gravy (http://www.recipe-source.com/side-dishes/sauces/02/rec0252.html)

Here's the best descriptions I could find:

Red Eye Gravy (http://www.raleighrealestate.com/weekly/050500.htm)

You have proceeded to make me crave country ham and red-eye gravy! I see some grits, eggs and country ham (with red-eye gravy) in my menu over the weekend!!! :)

Mario, would not come near me, he seen this gleam in my eyes, and decided it was best to stay in the trees and away from me, the cats and dogs hid under the bed!

Oh well, its over, I hope!! I was almost down to banging my head on the walls, or maybe the phone companys? LOL, lucky it didn't come to that!!

You are so right Gini! I don't know how on earth I survived Indiana weather now that I've completely whimped out here in California. Before, I would break out my T-shirts if it was 50 degrees in Indiana, now I'm freezing and I layer on the sweaters! The fire is nice, and some of that coffee with slicks irish cream would be divine. Snappy here - sorry to miss all the fun yesterday and earlier today! Haven't even had time to read the history yet....but I know I sure could use a beverage - something with either Jack or waaadka or rum in it would be just fine.

Got to go pick up my boys at the 'spa'. They got the full treatment today - hair cut, nails trimmed, puppy massage during the bathing - funny though, they don't think it is as much fun as I think it would be. hmmmmmmmm:)

Thanks Snappy. I'm not good at much, but watching Richard this past year has taught me how to pour a strong one.

Jesse, you are one fine looking pup. Come and sit over here with Auntie Slick. I've got some home-made treats for you. Do you like beef liver?? How about cheese?? Ok, Mario, I suppose you can have one too but I really don't think you will like them.

Good morning everyone. Here, it's cold, dark, windy and rainy. Typical Wet Coast October weather. I've stoked up the fire and will put on fresh coffee. Help yourself. I wonder what Debbie is doing now?

Gee, it's quiet in here now. Purrfect time to do cleanup duties. I imagine Richard should be back soon so better get this place in tip-top shape otherwise he'll have my head on the chopping block and I'll have to hear the old Trump comment of "You're fired".:D

Glad to see everyone here and in good 'spirits'

Hi Snappy. Sure, please make yourself comfortable. It's too quiet in here today. Here's a quarter for the jukebox. What can I get you to drink?

snappy
10-22-2004, 02:33 PM
Something that will give me the energy I need to get through this evening and yet keeps me mellow....hmmmmmmm

How about a Red Bull and Waaaaaka?

What would you like to hear on the juke box? Any type of music?

slick
10-22-2004, 02:38 PM
Holy Cow!! Red Bull it is then. DONE!
Put anything on the jukebox you like. I'm flexible.
Are you hungry? I can easily whip up a batch of hot crab dip.

OMG, firstly, I just love your signature. :D :D
Secondly, I was wondering if someone would notice the bait. Too bad Richard and Laurie aren't around. I'm sure they'd have something to say about that.
Thirdly, Spanish Coffee DONE!:)
Sit down by the fire. I've been trying to keep it going today.

Oh, Slick, I'll take some spanish coffee, too! I'm still a little sore from the therapy, and maybe warmth from the fire will sooth me.

OK - I have FINALLY made up my mind on the juke box - how about a little CCR to get us moving just a bit. Maybe some Proud Mary - and move into Tina Turner's version - and then on to some Ray Charles? I just feel like hearing something different.

Thanks for the Red Bull - I am much more energized now. Catland - come sit by me - I have so much energy now I am sure that it will rub off on you and you won't even feel the cold!

David - sorry you are sore - but no pain no gain...or something like that!

Lynne Lynne, that's me sitting in a chair next to you! I'll have a hot chocolate minus the marshmallows. Lynne, I'll be bowling with a Lutheran church league that I've belonged to for (shudder!) twenty years! I hope to get three games out of the old(new) knee. But I'll be careful!!

Yahoooooo, for David!!! Have fun! But take care of that knee!

A beer does sound good.

I think I will take Mario in the bathroom and give him a good old diaper change so he will be clean and fresh as a daisy!
