I'd like to apologise first for any typos, I am SO excited and can't type too good!!!

Today we went to the dog park, and on the way home I was talking about Ragdoll cats(because I really like them)

My mom told me to look up them/prices/breeders because it would be a nice Christmas gift

I started crying LOL, I then asked her instead of that if I could just pick one from a shelter, and I can :D :D

I am sooooooo excited and happy and crying!!!

I couldnt wait to share this!!!!!!!!!

Tigger has been an only cat for over 6 years!!!!!!!

:D :D :D

I'd be excited too!!! Congratulations for going to a shelter instead of a breeder. You may not find a pedigree there but maybe a Ragdoll mix?? Here's keeping my fingers crossed for you.

:D :D :D :D Thanks guys!

I am too excited for words! LOL

I am going to need LOTS of advice on introducing a new kitty to Tigger, as like I said, he's been the only cat for almost his entire life, and I don't think he's going to like this :o

Congratulations - good for you for going to a shelter. You will find many beautiful cats there, some even look like pure breds. Your Tigger may surprise you. We got another cat when our old boy was nine years old and they got along really well.

Congrats! I'm sure you will find the perfect kitty at the shelter. I love ragdolls too, that's why I was drawn to Tibby. I know she isn't a ragdoll, but I think she kind of looks like one.

Congrats!! I know you are very excited.

As for Tigger being and only cat for 6 years, Ripley was an only cat for 10 years before I introduced Jazz and then a year later Scout and now another year later R&R (the kittens Rocky and Rumor). He did best with kittens, Scout was almost a year old and they still fight, but he actually enjoys watching kittens play. Maybe you could talk your mom into two kittens so they'd keep each other company and not drive Tigger crazy. Even if you just get one he will adjust with time. Ripley did with just Jazz.

KUDOS TO YOU!!! For choosing a shelter kitty over a breeder one! Many purebreds end up in shelters (check out Petfinder.com) and as you know, too many end up killed for lack of good loving homes. :( And I agree with getting two kittens instead of one...less stress for Tigger! :D And more fun for the whole family. Congrats on making a smart descision...and can't wait to see pics! Cuties so far! Keep in mind, Ragdolls etc. need daily brushing to keep them free of matts. ;)

Awwwwww!!!:D I'm so happy for you!!!:D Congrats!! They're all so cute! I love ragdolls cats. They're just gorgeous.

and Yea, I agree, two would probably be better;) So they can keep each other company if Tigger doesn't want to play lol.

I can't get the baby kitties that I really liked :(

My mom says she wants me to get a cat thats already spayed/neutered!

I had my heart set on a few of those kitties :(

I guess I have to search for ones that are a little older!

catlady1945

I love the big, grey one. The thing about getting an "older" cat from a shelter is that mostly they are spayed or neutered already.

This kitty has already been spayed and she's super cute!

Awww congratulations on adopting a shelter kitty.
I know you had your heart set on getting a little kitty, but you will be doing an older cat a big favor by adopting it, as you know it is harder for them to be adopted out than a kitty.

I know one day, you will be able to own a widdle kitty to love and care for.:)

I am loving this!

Here are some older ones I am looking at :)

Theres actually a chance that I can get a cat this week

"Hi, I'm Twinkle and I am a three year old spayed female. I am a strictly indoor cat who enjoys using clumping litter(less mess if you ask me). I eat hard food only ,well I did until I came here to the shelter. I am great with kids and people of all kinds. Please drop by the shelter for more information. "

http://www.heavenlycreatures.ca/MissMew1.jpg
"I am Miss Mew and I'm about 2 &1/2 years of age. I was a stray on Bell Island, but a nice woman saved me and brought me to Heavenly Creatures so I could find a loving, warm home. I just recently had a litter so I am not spayed as of yet. I am gentle and loving and I don't even mind if you pick me up. I love to look out the window and curl up on a nice warm blankie to sleep."

Can anyone see any eyes? :p

"Polly is a DLH, black female, around 5 months old --- very affectionate --- quiet personality --- gets along with other cats --- beautiful soft silky fur"

Another orangie?
http://www.petfinder.org/fotos/NF01/NF01.3452240-1-x.jpg
"Peter is a dlh orange tabby neutered male. He is a quiet , gentle cat. He gets along with other cats. Peter is a lovable cat that is around two years old. This cat is looking for a loving home to take him in. Peter will be an enjoyable cat to have in your home. He will sit and read the paper with you."

This is so hard...yet fun ;)

"Hello to all. My name is Abe. I am a 4 year old neutered male. They tell me that I am very handsome and friendly. My owner's moved and couldn't take me. Would you like to have me as part of your family?"

This girl/boy is also nice, but it doesn't say if s/he is spayed/neutered or not

OMG I don't envy you as I would have a very hard time choosing just one. But I would lean more towards a cat that gets along well with other cats, as this would make it easier on Tigger if the other cat isn't threatning towards him.

Good luck on your decision.:)

I just got emails about "Pong" and "Casey" they are on the other pages...

They both sound like such sweet hearts and they are both so close but are not spayed/neutered or old enough to be :(

Theres also another close pair, both girls, one is solid black and the other is solid white!! Nice pair ;)

Is there any way to find out how the kitty does with other cats? I mean, that is the primary concern... some shelter have a "cat room" that they allow their vaccinated cats to live in. I have found that my older females get along best with the new intro cat being a male. Don't ask me why- my vet suggested it and it has always proven true! Maybe hormone smell? Maybe my perception only! Of course, my older single female was a "nasty" (hit other cats) gal so maybe that had something to do with it? Just follow the "rules" for introductions and I'm sure all will be ok. You know, separate rooms at first, smelling under the door (moosmom uses a shirt with new cats smell on it and vice versa to get other cats used to it during this period) Actually- she would be a good person to consult! Then put new cat in carrier and let your cat sniff around, let them spit for a bit then back to room, do this a few times, then face to face with water sprayer ready to separate in case of an all out fight (not if just little tapping stuff though). This could take how ever long it takes them to get used to each other, and it means being patient. Which obviously you already are! Keep us updated and pictures!

Oh, good! I was afraid i was saying things you already knew! Well, again, keep us updated! PS, I never followed those steps exactly to the "T", I just did what seemed right! Cats upset? Separate! Till they get along. The steps are great though for cats who have never been exposed to other cats (mine have had repeated foster cats come and go over several years so I don't have the time or patience anymore!- I actually rarely do foster care either- last was a feral kitten about 3 months ago that has since been adopted!) Well, don't hesitate to private message people with specific questions- like I said, Moosmom has done lots of intros and would have good ideas!

Alot of the stuff you posted was stuff I didn't know, like the spray bottle thing, it's a great idea, and I bet it works great incase of a fight, but I wouldn't have thought of it ;)

Also I will probably PM Moosmom!

Thanks again :)

I know what you mean about pins and needles - I was bursting to get out of work on Monday to get my first cat 2-1/2 year old I bought from the shelter - I had to pick her up from the vet since they insist (rightly so) that the animals get spay or neutered. So glad she was home safe with me. We are really enjoying our new kitty cat and I'm sure you will be too - it is very exciting - I know you have one already but so glad you are adopting one from the shelter and an older one at that. Even the shelter I went to told me they don't ever adopt out the older cats - if any get adopted they are the kittens. Of course it was an animal control shelter that kills them within 3 days. Have a great time today!!! Give him lots of love and hugs and kisses from me too! :) Debbie
