Just wondering how often most of you see the doctor for a checkup.

I haven't been in almost 16 years. :o

I hate doctors. They scare me. :(

I avoid them like the plague if I can, I have just been because I have Bronchitis, and I may need to go back, as I am having trouble shaking it off, but I also have to go yearly as they won't give me my painkiller pills, without a yearly visit, its mandatory, which is not such a bad thing, as I get my Blood pressure checked etc.

I go once a year because I am supposed to. :) I don't like it, but I don't hate it. Just something I have to do, being a woman and all.

Going to see my doctor is fine.
I have to go at least once a year for my check up, like Carole, but with old age creeping on I seem to be going at least 3 times a year now.

Sadly, I go quite often :(

Something is always coming up. My immune system has been weakened by years of eating disorder, and the slightest cold has me in bed for a week!

Let's just say that after 16 years you are due for a check up. Those aren't bad at all. A pap smear and a mameogram would probably be something you would want to have as well. Also you should get a tetanus vaccination at least every ten years.

I'm a big baby when it comes to just about everything, and these things are a piece of cake. Go, get it over with and you'll feel better for it.

I go the "the" Dr. every year.

My grandmother had not been to the Dr. since 1964 (when she had her last child) until she had a minor stroke in 2000!

That was 36 years!!!!!

Sadly since then, she had a major stroke and has passed.

Your kidding right?

I've been to the dr so much in the past few years with my graves disease/thyroid disorder. So I see a specialist for that and have also have been seeing a ophthalmologist (protrusion of eyeball). Then having to go to my gyno every year and if my back gives me problems I have to see my dr. about that.

Well you get the point. My checkups are close together so I guess it all depends on what dr I'm going to:p

They aren't that bad, so don't be scared. Just do it, you'll thank yourself later.

The only doctor I go to for a yearly exam is my OB/GYN. Any other doctors, I avoid if at all possible. I did, however, have to break down and go to my GP back in May (due to major stress related issues...).

Cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure all run in my family. My mom is constantly on my back to go have a checkup. I think I'm afraid that the doctor will find something wrong with me. :(

I check my blood pressure using one of those store machines, and I have my own diabetes checker thingy that I use every so often to keep track of my blood sugar.

I did go to the ER about 10 years ago when my eardrum partially ruptured because of the flu, but I haven't been for a regular check up.

Well, I have some bad allergies and Asthma and have to visit my doctor on a very regular basis. I have found that the more you visit them, the easier it is. Do I like going? No. But I don't hate it either. My Dr. knows that when the weather starts to change, I will probably be in there. And then there is the yearly female visit - my least favorite of all! But there is also a history of cancer in my family - so I go.

So PJ's Mom - the doctor can become your friend and confidant. Let the doctor know that you are not comfortable and I bet they will take more time with you to get you to relax. With your history (we share some of the same type btw) you really should go. And just think - then your mom would have to find something else to complain to you about....

just my two cents.....:):D

Lol...oh my...I'm at the doctors all them time. Every three months. I see my family dr., gyn dr., cancer dr. and radiologist/oncologist doc. I have one more gyn visit and then I will switch to every 6 months and the radiologist once a year.

You really should go. Its a piece of cake and like Anna says you will thank yourself later and feel much better.

Take care of yourself. Its important

Robin :)

An ounce of prevention, as they say....

I am another one who votes for you to have a doctor visit. I go yearly for blood work (check cholesterol, blood sugar, etc.) and when I am sick, which thankfully isn't often.

I see my OB-GYN yearly and schedule yearly mammograms. I also visit my eye doctor every two years (actually I visit him every day because he is also my boss ;) )

So many health issues do not give *warning signals.*

Of course you should also see your dentist twice a year. Now there's a person that I sometimes could do without. LOL!

At least three times a year (usually more like 5-10) and also additional girlie visits. ;)

When I get older, I'll start getting mammograms and colonoscopies and all that fun stuff. Not looking forward to that!

I'm big on prevention. I get my teeth cleaned twice a year, get my eyes checked every year, etc.

I can go to the dentist without a problem. Will make the appt. and keep it with a smile. :D

Not the doctor, though.

I don't need checkups, I still wind up in there every 6 months on average. I'm always sick or something.

I go to my regular doctor once a year and whenever I'm sick and just can't get rid of whatever it is. I hate the doctor!:o

UGHH!!

I only go to the doctor if I'm on my death bed!

I hate that place

PJ's Mom - My mom's dad has Skin Cancer, my mom's mom had Ovarian cancer and my dad's mom had Breast Cancer in both breast. I'm so scared to get old!

My doctor is really nice, he explains everything and is easy to talk to. Still only go see him when I have to though. :D As it happens I had to go see him yesterday for my yearly medication review. (Result; a doubling up on some pills and a need to return on the 14th Oct for a spiro-something re-test and flu jab)

I only go if I have to for a yearly checkup, pap smear etc.

I used to have the best doctor and we were on a first name basis. I remember having the start of a monster migraine and having to see him but he was about to go home because he also had a migraine  . He waited for me even though he looked like death warmed up and had an IV drip hanging out of his hand so he could try to stop his migraine, the poor thing!

He's too far away now and I am really disappointed with my local doctors. I haven't found a good, insightful, into preventative medicine one yet.

I go when I feel I need to, it's not something I like to do all the time. It's just part of life:)

I understand your fear, but almost EVERYTHING is treatable, curable, or manageable if caught early. Yearly check ups saved me from ovarian cancer.

GO!

I'm forced to go every 3 months (except my last walk in dor messed up & gave me a year & 1/2 of meds muahahaha).

I have to go every 3 months because I don't have a family dr in this city & cannot get to my old one & if I want my meds. I have to see the dr. Stupid family Dr. shortage.

I go to the doctor's every once in a while. Mostly for my screwed up back, which has been acting up lately. :(

I don't mind going to the dentist/orthodontist. You kinda get used to having people sticking their fingers in your mouth with having braces. :p I go to the orthodontist every 6-8 weeks to get them tightened and looked at, and I go to the dentist twice a year for teeth cleaning.

Hi,
Okay, I go to the doctor for a physical every year. I get bloodwork done, pap, mamogram. It is smart to do this because you never know if you develope something. If you catch it early, you will be a survivor. If not, you know!!!! I had a lump in my breast for the first time in my life at age 42. It was caught early and removed. It was CANCER! SO I HAD TO HAVE CHEMOTHERAPY AND RADIATION TREATMENTS. I'M FINE AND CANCER FREE FOR OVER 10 YEARS!
LOL FROM CHICAS'S MOM :) :) ;)

I try to avoid the doctor as much as possible lol. I have to go to my yearly "girl" visits (annoying as all get out because my OBGYN likes to make small talk while she has her fingers in not so plesant places  ) and I only go to my regular Dr when something is wrong. He annoys me so much sometimes. Last time I went in with a URI and the first thing out of his mouth was a perky "How are you?"

Just fine, can I get a cookie now? (I actually said that, he just gave me a half smile raised eybrow look lol)

I hate dotctors. But with moms Diabetes I have to get checked out every once in a while.
