This is Jason, Devon's Husband,
Muffin just ate about two pounds of Shedd's Spread.
She is walking around whining and making grunty noises.
What do I do?

I don't know if butter is dangerous for dogs. I know in Greenland they feed the sleddogs a packet of butter.. but these are hard working dogs which need every extra calorie they can get.

Perhaps she needs to vomit. You could try to let her outside so she can eat some grass...?

But obviously... Calling the vet for advice is probably the best advice I can give you.

I hope she feels better soon.

I called the vet.
The vet said to make her drink hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting.
I gave it to muffin and it worked....so I think she should be ok now!
Thanks all.
Jason

I hope so!!
Please keep a close eye on her and give us any updates!
Did they say what butter could do? I've never heard of a dog, or anyone for that matter, eating so much butter. :p

It will probably give her the hershey-squirts. Hopefully nothing else. :)

How's Muffin today, anyone heard? Tawny once ate 2 whole trays of uncooked shortbread cookies, like a pound of butter, she just licked her lips and looked for more treats. Never a problem, I called the vet and she just told me to look for gas pains, ie not being able to settle down and lots of panting. It didn't bothered her in the least. Apparently is hard on the liver? I guess we were lucky.

Oh Muffin, I hope you are feeling alright today.

This reminded me of a story from when Justin was little. He dared his cousin, Jeff, to drink a tub of melted butter, and Jeff did. They took Jeff to the hospital and he had to drink charcoal. Justin was living with his aunt and uncle at the time and Justin and Jeff got into a lot of trouble, that wasn't the only trip to the hospital while Justin was living with them.

If Muffin is like my Tawny, off the kitchen table when no one was looking. They can be real fast about stuff like that!

Same thing happened to a friend of a friend of mine whose dog got a hold of some "funky" chocolate brownies (if you know what I mean ;) )and ate the entire pan!!! Hydrogen peroxide worked for his dog.

I'll bet all the youngsters haven't got a clue.
Bet her doggie slept awhile after he ate everything
in the house ;)

My MILs dog ate some "funky brownies" minus the brownies if you catch my meaning. That poor dog! I felt real bad for him actually, didn't hurt him though. He did manage to eat most of a 20 lb bag of dog food...and he didn't even throw up once! Big dummy...

Yeah, this is how my friend's friend told me the story:

"Yeah man, so I had to grab him and pour hydrogen peroxide down his throat to make him throw up the chocolate, man. It was nuts, man! He puked...and then the [insert name of illegal substance here] hit him, man..."

The dog is 100% fine, by the way!

:D

My RB Cody once ate a one-pound bag of M&Ms (he figured out how to open a drawer and pulled the package out). I used the peroxide trick with him too.. I think like 2 tablespoons every 15 mins until it 'kicked in.' It did the trick. :o

I hope she is doing well!!!

that reminded me of a few things that Kodie ate:o
We went out and my mom leftt a stick of butter on the counter with the wrapper still on,and somehow either my RB Sheena or Kodie got it down,,,they must of had a snack, and when we came home there were both lying on the floor, and they didnt look too happy:p they didnt eat anything for the rest of the night,,,,silly dogs.
and Kodie ate a whole Loaf of Bread once!! this was like 2 months ago..:)

im glad Muffin is feeling better, and that she didnt get sick from it.
