View Full Version : Sick Kitty :(

Raven hadn't been acting herself the past few weeks. She hadn't been eating all that much or sleeping with us. She's been sleeping in the back of my closet under my clothes. I haven't been concerned at all because I figured it was the move.

But now, she's got a majorly runny nose. She's sneezing constantly. The gook is clear, which I know in people is a good sign. Her eyes and ears are clear, all though you can tell in her eyes that she doesn't feel well.

Neither of the cats have been sick since I brought Ron home with kennel cough a few years back. It doesn't seem as bad as this, but I am still concerned.

Raven has not been exposed to anything aside from maybe those rats last month when she got lost under the old house. She's an inside cat and we've had no visitors.

I'm going to call the vet first thing in the morning. (Or sooner if her condition gets worse.) But I'd like to hear some suggestions and opinions...I am worried. :(

It's possible Raven is running a temp and needs some antibiotics to get her out of this slump. Check her for dehydration as well by pulling up the loose skin on her back. Slow rebounding=dehydrated kitty :( Do you have any meat baby food to tempt her with? Poor girl sounds like she needs a White coats visit. :( How old is she? Maybe bloodworks needed if she's an older kitty...she may be having issues with kidneys etc. Good luck Tonya, and give her a kiss for me. Keep us posted too. ;) Jan

Poor Raven. Is it possible that these are allergies? She might be sensitive to the new carpet, or paint, etc. I know with humans, allergies show up as runny nose and eyes, sneezing, etc. I hope s he feels better soon.

Did Raven have a URI as a kitten? If she did it's possible that the stress of the move has caused a flare.

Please let us know what the vet says.

Thank you, everyone. Raven has never had an URI. She doesn't seem dehydrated. She seems to be drinking plenty of water, but not really eating. She must not be to bad, because she's out here rubbing against me to be petted right now. But something is definately wrong. I'll call them tomorrow for sure.

I am so glad to hear that Raven is not getting worse but glad that you will be going to the vet anyway - please keep us updated - OK? I am wondering, like catnapper - if it might not be allergy or related to the move - either that or just the stress of the move. Hopefully something minor!! Take care, Tonya.

I am sending mother nature prayers to Raven! Sounds very much like allergies doesn't it? Well if you are still up and she still hasn't eaten, have you tried giving her a taste of all the meat leftovers in the fridge after a bit of warming in the microwave? if that doesn't work, tuna USUALLY does. Give it a go (although by now I am sure you have- sorry i am late- trying to find 2 cats a ride from LA to MA!) Keep us posted- I hope it's allergies!

Poor Raven, it sounds like she's not feeling very well. :(

Maybe she has allergies? Basie's are really acting up lately, his vet prescribed some meds I have to get at a human pharmacy.

Let us know how the white coat visit goes tomorrow.

Its called chlorpheniramine, its an antihistamine. I haven't picked it up yet, but when I do, I'll let you know how it works.

Good luck today at the vet. :)
