Take a look at the virtual tour. :( How horrible! Look at the sign on the top.. "On a Budget? These pups are for you!!".

Shake A Paw typically carries between 100 and 140 pure-breed and mixed-breed puppies...

Shake A Paw buys our puppies and kittens from local private breeders in the tri-state area, hobbyist breeders and USDA inspected and approved kennels only!!! No puppy mills or sub-standard kennels here!
  Yeah right!!

What amazes me is that it looks like he is/was involved heavily in the dog world with rescuing, training and showing. How does someone go from rescuing to carrying 100-140 pups in a shop? :(

Oh God. Look at all those puppies in those teeny, tiny, wire cages. The statement that you quoted is a LOAD of B.S. and I don't believe it for a second. A true responsible breeder would NEVER, EVER sell to petstores. Never.

He should be ashamed of himself. How does one go from rescuing and showing dogs, and claiming to be a "dog lover", to opening a petstore that has hundreds of dogs and puppies?

It's very depressing also seeing that a few of those employees used to be involved in rescue. What happened?? They're all sorry excuses for human beings. :(

Horrible.

Going to email him my feelings. Those poor dogs. Those cages are barely big enough for them to move in. And if those prices are for people on a budget, I would hate to see the prices for those that weren't. He ought to be very ashamed of himself. I feel so bad for the dogs because it's not their fault. They're stacked 3 cages deep in that one pic. Totally disgusting.

Sad! Just goes to show, just because a person
shows doesn't mean he or she is reputable.
(looks like he uses his rescue and showing as a business ploy for his business)

You are right GoldenRetrluver, he must buy his pups from puppy mills or BYB because as you said No reputable breeder would sell to him.

Are you sure that isn't a hoax? How can anyone in their right mind brag and actually have pictures of all those cages? That is horrible! Not to mention his prices are really high.

When your puppy comes with a limited warranty, and you can finance it at $25 a month for 48 months, there's just something wrong with that. :(

Their website comes back to Oxford Puppy Group with the same address as the dog shop. They also have shakeapaw.net come up as the same page. Only email address I can find is [email protected] I googled Jeff Morton in New Jersey and got this: http://www.google.com/search?sa=X&oi=fwp&pb=f&q=jeff+morton+new+jersey Don't know if this is the right one, though.

Thats seems soo odd.... How can they even possibly sell that many pups? & keep getting more in... wouldn't some of them be adults, I dunno... maybe I'm just wrong and they do go really fast...Sad.... and its like he had one of each breed or something like he looks in the classifieds and buys one puppy from breeders... tha'd be a lot of breeders... its just so wierd.... Poor puppies... Why dont ppl just leave it to the breeders to sell pups?

Thats AWFUL!!!!     How can people do that and not have a conscious? GRRRRR...... Your right! Just because people show thier dogs doesn't mean that they are responsible people or whatnot. At a dog show i was at once a lady told me that this other lady that shows her St. Benards has 40 of them!!! I show my dog, but I NEVER plan to breed my dog, EVER!! All I want to do is show her.

Check this out:

3) If the puppy described above is diagnosed as having hip dysplasia after 6 months from the date of purchase, but within 5 years from the date of purchase, Shake-A-Paw offers the consumer the option of returning the animal to Shake-A-Paw for replacement with another puppy of equal value. The consumer MUST provide Shake-A-Paw with the following in order to qualify for a replacement puppy: A veterinary diagnosis, X-Rays and original AKC registration papers and/or registration certificate. Shake-A-Paw will get a second opinion at it's own expense and the selection of a replacement puppy must be made within 6 months of the consumer's return of the original puppy.

Consumer: "Ah yes, my puppy is now 4 years old and has developed hip dysplasia. My dog is bung, please give me another one. Thank you."

How can you 'trade in' your dog?!!! That's horrible!
They make the dogs sound like household appliances - warranties and financing - oh my god!

I certainly wouldn't buy from him, but if I lived near there, I would protest, picket and attempt to free the dogs from that insane house with the insane warden!
