No, you dont have to pay, I have 6 invites that I can give away to people, It's just in testing or somthing so you can sign up normaly like you can with yahoo...Yahoo has 100 mb gmail has 1000mb

Do you ever use it? I am not sure, but i think they give them away more to people that use it more often.
