It is looking like the Alabama/Mississippi border is the hit zone at this time (but could change). People are still trying to get out of New Orleans. Interstate 10 is back up from NEW ORLEANS to TEXAS. Interstate 12 is backed up from Slidell, La to Baton Rouge where it merges with Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge.
They said if the hit zone is where it looks like it is, the worst we will get is tropican force winds in and around Baton Rouge but there is great concern for New Orleans since it is so far below sea level. New Orleans will get the most of the storm surge from the gulf beacuse of the depth of the gulf water around it, most of it will be forced into New Orleans, which is surrounded by water on 3 sides.
They said that Baton Rouge is 55 miles from the closest water of the gulf so the storm surge which are killers, are not a problem we have. Right now, the sun is showing itself but the rain from the outter bands of the storm are suppose to start this morning sometime and some of the winds, about 20 to 35 mph gusts by noon. Hopefully, we will not have that much damage here other than tree limbs and power outtages but it is going to be a mighty long day and night! PLEASE Keep us ALL in your prayers today, for all those who will be effected by this monster!
