Wow! What beautiful photos on that site! I've never been to the Grand Canyon before so this should be a real treat. Do we get to ride a donkey into the canyon? I can't wait to see Mario on one.

WHOA! I get dizzy just looking at the pictures. I'll stay on top swilling lemonade and taking pictures from a distance.

I don't envy you with Mario on a donkey! It will be like trying to keep Jello in the saddle. Take plenty of extra diapers!:D

RICHARD, WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!!

I have never been to Grand Canyon either and I would love to see it. Look, Mario can ride with me on my donkey, that way there can be two jellos on one donkey and maybe you won't notice which one jiggles the most!:D :D

Lemonade! Alright! As long as there is something stronger as a reward at the end of the ride. However, I will probably have to *sit* in mine, my bum will be so sore.

Put me in for a reservation, please!

Lemonade sounds wonderful.
I'll bring snacks.

I would love to go to Grand Canyon!
But....... I am not standing at the edge.

lbaker

I've been there and long to go back so sign me up. I can stand at the edge as long as there is a railing but if not.. NOT. Don't mind a donkey ride but not down that trail... no railings and I hyperventalate at heights. I'll take one of those little planes and meet you guys down there. I'll have a camp site set up by the time your poor sore bums hit the bottom (as it were ;) )

davidpizzica
09-15-2004, 08:07 AM
Laurie, This will be my 3rd. horse(mule?) ride in my life! Counting the pony rides at Kennywood Park! Do you think we will be walking like old cow hands at the bottom??

lbaker
09-15-2004, 08:20 AM
Mule, donkey, horse or burro... butt cramps all around by the time you reach the ol' end of the trail. Worth it though, just to say you have done it. The river at the bottom of the canyon is cool and refreshing and dipping into it will do wonders for sore feet and, ahem, other body parts ;) Yippee tie yeay partner. Happy trails to you.

I want to take pictures of you all before you head down. Some BEFORE and AFTER! I also plan to take a few from behind as you head down!

The lemonade is great. I think I'll indulge in a hot dog or two while you are gone. How long does it take to get down and back up the canyon? How many hot dogs do we have?:D

lbaker
09-15-2004, 10:53 AM
Hey MOFF, want to fly down with me and meet them at the bottom? I thought we could all have a slumber party tonight and watch the sun set over the Canyon walls. Breathtaking colors and the sunrise in the morning is every bit as spectacular. The morning air can make one quite giddy actually. It's all cyber so it's perfectly safe don't forget.

Laurie, I think even cyber flying may freak me out!
I have actually flown before. Once! in a twin engine plane. I loved it after I got up there but going up and landing took 10 years off my life. :D

Gosh, after my 2 hour commute to work this morning, I feel like I have been riding a donkey for 3 hours down a canyon! Ugh!

Could I have a little vodka in my lemonade please! I need something to help me relax a little!

I think before and after pictures are a great idea! Everyone, be sure to let your donkeys, burros...whatever, drink the water...not the spiked beverages. Can you image what could happen if they did! LOL

KYS,
Thanks for the snacks....

David,
No Handicapped plates on those asses!

MOFF and Laurie,
how's about a helicopter ride down???

MOFF, save some room for the camp out cookout......

We are having ribs, slaw, beans, chili and cornbread - and dessert is SMORES!!!!

Saddle up!

Uh, saddle up?

(now how in the devil does this thing work - and who wears it - me or the donkey?)

lbaker
09-15-2004, 01:31 PM
Helicopter sounds cool. Only time I was in one I was being transported to the hospital, it would be neat to actually see out this time. If you still are nervous Connie just do a Dorothy in Oz routine and click your heels three times whilst saying "I wish I were at the Pt campsite, I wish I were at the PT campsite". Next thing you know - POOF! There you'll be. Boy oh boy do I have a breakfast planned for the first morning we wake up.. take your choice

Cowboy breakfast #1 includes - Cowboy coffee, sausage, donuts, pigs in a blanket, steak sandwiches, breakfast tacos, hot pancakes, milk, orange juice, flaky biscuits and the best gravy this side of the Pecos!
or

Cowboy breakfast #2 includes - fresh scrambled eggs, hot sourdough biscuits, sliced bacon & sausage, cream gravy & jellies, orange juice, Cowboy coffee
(upgradable to a morning Mimosa, Bloody Mary & Screwdriver bar upon request)

OR, pick some from column A and some from column B. We can mix and match.

Gini Gini Gini.... wait until Corinna gets here, I bet she can help you with that saddle... no Gini, you're supposed to be facing the front

I've got to heave my ass up there and it looks a bit difficult.

Oh thanks Gini thats better. Why are you facing the horses rear end?

Really pretty views eh? Thought I was going to miss the trip - only just made it.

Glad I had a very long lemonade (with double vodka!!).

C'mon David hoist the butt - you can do this. There's a step here to make things a little easier. Great going eh?

It's OK Laurie - I have a stuffed parrot on my shoulder and do these huge hoop earrings suit me? NO - I didn't think so!! They keep slapping me in the mouth - ouch!

Hang on while I steer this steer away from Mario - that monkey has a gleam in his eye - I don't trust him one bit!!

Oh Lynne, I thought Richard said TURN AROUND, so I did!

I didn't know he meant the donkey was supposed to turn around.

Does anyone know the words to the song DON'T FENCE ME IN?

I'd kinda like to sing it......................

MARIO!!!! Leave the lasso alone ---- NO, NOT THE PARROT...........
OH MARIO.........now look what you have done.

Breakfast - Oh Lord, when is breakfast????

Gini,

Don't Fence Me In
by Bing Crosby

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above
Don't fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
Don't fence me in
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please
Don't fence me in

Just turn me loose
Let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my Cayuse
Let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise

I want to ride to the ridge
Where the west commences
And gaze at the moon
Till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hovels
And I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies
Don't fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
Don't fence me in
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please
Don't fence me in

Just turn me loose
Let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my Cayuse
Let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise
Ba boo ba ba boo

I want to ride to the ridge
Where the west commences
And gaze at the moon
Till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hobbles
And I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in

No
Poppa, don't you fence me in

ARRGHHH!

Richard - what exactly is a **cayuse** as in the 4th verse?
I've always wondered!

Great idea Connie - songs round the camp-fire - trouble is I can't carry a tune in a bucket - friends always tell me to SHUT UP - so I wont be offended when you all shout at me!!!

Well done Gini - now you and the horse are facing the right way you don't look like a 'push-me-pull-you'!!

Push-me-pull-you Arrrrr me wee wench... ya had me laughin' wit dat one. Mario reminds me of Ragtime Cowboy Joe with his silly little cowboy hat trying to lasso a parrot!

How he sings,
Raggy music to his cattle (parrot?)
As he swings
Back and forward in his saddle
On his horse
(A pretty good horse),
Who is syncopated gaited,
And with such a funny meter
To the roar of his repeater.

My mom used to sing that song to me when I was little. Riding these donkies are sure a lot different than horses. They sure are hard headed. I can't get mine to go more than a few feet at a time. Anyone got a carrot I can dangle in front of him?

lbaker

Mario probably has a banana you could use but somehow I don't think donkeys like bananas

2nd verse
silly as the 1st

How they run,
When they hear the feller’s gun,
Because the western folks all know:
He’s a hifalootin’, scootin’, shootin’
Son-of-a-gun from Arizona,
Ragtime Cowboy
(Talk about your cowboy),
Ragtime Cowboy Joe.

I hate to bring it up David but I do believe I'm EVEN older than you ;) :p

You brought em down, you have to take em back! OOPS! Looks like Mario solved that problem for you!

Sorry, clicking my heels only works for me. You need your own pair of ruby slippers!

After I get to the top, I can thow them down and you can take turns putting them on and getting out. They are a size 6, by the way.

Besides Slick, those helicopter cowboys are easy on the eyes BIG TIME ;) I haven't seen Richard either, he's probably at the bar getting things set up.

I don't know about cowgurl pilots but I do believe I heard Richard sweet talking some saucy wenches into filling in as scullary maids back at the bar - at least until the regular crew shows up. Some of those cowgurls back at the ranch look quite fetching in their chaps and fringed bodices  Don't worry David... we won't let you down. Slick, Slick Slick... what's with the Miss Kitty make-up and hairdo  Gini? Wakey wakey... you don't want to be left behind.
