I have a calico named Freckles Jr. She has now had 2 strokes. I never knew that cats could have strokes until 2 years agoe. she is still alive. some symptoms of this are: disorientation, loss of eye sight, and paralysis. if your cat has any of these problems please take them to the emergency vet. They didn't expect Freckle Jr. to live through this or if she did she wouldn't get these features back. she is now fine and periodically will have small spasms now. I hope you don't have to go through this.

I am so glad Freckles is OK. My mother was out gardening one day, watching her favorite cat (an orange tabby, about 9 at the time) chasing one of his sisters around a tree trunk. Seconds later she looked up again to see him lying still on the ground. He was dead. Her vet said as suddenly as it was and as relatively young as he was it must have been a stroke. Take care your baby Freckles, she's a special one to have survived two (hopefully her last)! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

Oh, please give Freckles Jr. big hugs. How frightening! And how wonderful she has recovered so nicely. I am a nurse, and know how scary strokes can be. Thank you for alerting us all. It is so important to keep an eye out for even the slightest physical or behavioral changes! After all, they can't tell us when they don't feel well!!!

He is still being brave eating and drinking , and even still trying to clean himself, but his head is hung so low, he wants to look up but cant, does anyone know why these strokes happen.

I'm hoping for the best for you and your dear Ollie. It is a terrible feeling when the furbabies are ill, especially with something so serious. It's odd how he has very similiar markings to my Juliet who is having her own troubles right now. Has Ollie been seen by a vet since his stroke?

yes he went to the vets saturday, he has medication, we have to take him back tomorrow for results of his blood test, what problems does juliet have?

She was missing for about 48 hours. She came back home this afternoon and won't eat and had blood under her tail. I gave more details and pictures of her in this thread. (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=139117) Please update us about Ollie when you hear more tomorrow. Have you researched feline strokes online?

ollie had a good bill of health at the vets today, i cant tell you how much he has improved the vet is still not sure if he had a stroke or not, from his blood test all they could find was his potassium was low, only comom in show cats as they have a strict diet. As we feed ollie a good diet the vet said it could of been a large traumer that upset him and effected his mussels. ollie will be on a course of tablets to build this up and will hopefully be on course for a full recovery. cant tell you how releived we are. :)

That is great news! Such cute pictures of Ollie!
Juliet has recovered and is doing much better now. Thank you. We think she got trapped under the house and was without water for almost 2 days and that caused the dehydration. She must have eaten something that made her have the bloody poop problem as well. Hope Ollie and you have some quality time together without stresses.

He is so cunning! back to normal food for ollie. Do u have any new photo`s of juilet?

So sorry to hear about Freckles. I have a calico, Puddy, that's in CRF and she's my heart kitty. It makes me so sad to think of any creature suffering but especially our fur babies. Here's hoping that Freckles is back to normal soon and that all will be well.....

Do u have any new photo`s of juilet?

I do have one that I took with my phone the other day. I'll try to remember to transfer it to the computer, and perhaps take another one or two of her.

Thanks for the update about Ollie. Chicken livers is better than eating nothing. Those kitties can be little stinkers sometimes can't they?

i`m so worried about ollie, he has had another visit to the vets as he has stopped eating altogether, he was given vitamin injections and the vet said we should see a vast improvement, but i`m afraid we havent i`ve tried all kinds of food to give him but he`s not interested at all, even his favs`s he eats a mouthfull then off, he is due to have another blood test in 2weeks , but as he is not eating and taking in the potassium, i`m not sure it will show any different from his last one , i think the vet is unsure as to his illness and we will seak further advice. we can see ollie is ill but there are signs , when he does certain things we think he`s back to himself.............. oh how we wish.

Oh, I'm so sorry about Ollie. He was such a handsome boy. I know how much you miss him but you took such good care of him that he'll be waiting for you at the Bridge one day. Now he's resting and preparing to be the happy, healthy cat that he was always meant to be. RIP, sweet Ollie.

I am so, so sorry to hear about Ollie. You must be hurting very much. Thank you for letting us know though. I have often wondered how he was doing. And it is true, there's no way to replace Ollie in your hearts. Perhaps one day you'll decide that you have room to help another kitty in need and share your life and home with it. Only you can decide if and when that may happen. And it may not. But either way Ollie will always live on in your heart and memory.

Oh Wilson!!!! You are such a cutie! I'm glad to hear that you got another kitty. No kitty will replace Ollie, but Wilson will help heal the pain, I am sure. You should post those pictures in his own thread in the Cat General section so everyone will be sure to see him. That way you can keep us updated on his progress and won't have to keep coming back to this sad thread to do it. Thanks again for showing off your new baby!!

EEEK! Sandy, where is the CUTENESS warning? :D

I LOVE his face, and his big white pawsies!

Consider introducing Wilson in Cat General - he will be a huge hit!

No, he will never replace Ollie, not at all - but he already has his very own place in your heart. :)

this is so strange i have a cat named tigger that looks just like your cat, i almost lost him this june after the flood that i had, i did not know that he had a heart murmur, the change in living quarters put him into heart failure, it costed me 2,000 to keep him alive and he has to stay on lacex the rest of his life, it was worth every penny for me, and i live with the risk of strokes, it is scary but i am trying to enjoy the little time that i have left with him, and i will continue to aid him as long as he shows me he wants to fight. It is just so amazing i would swear that picture of your cat is my tigger

you need to have a sonagram of your cats heart, a murmur is what is the cause of my cats distress, it requires him to have lacex the rest of his life but the meds are cheap, and the meds dont stop the strokes all together but it helps

Can I ask you if Freckles had any feature changes in her face at all because I am fostering a 16 to 18 yr old cat from a local rescue group and when I recieved her Laborday weekend she was nothing but skin and bones and now she actually has gained weight but I noticed today that her eye is almost closed and her tip of her tounge is hanging out with her mouth opened. I called them and they are going to get her in the vet tomarrow but I was wondering if this could be what she has had.
