Dead Couple to Be Married

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African man who shot his pregnant fiancýe dead before killing himself will be posthumously married to her at the weekend.

Police Captain Mohale Ramatseba said David Masenta shot 25-year-old Mgwanini Molomo after a quarrel before turning the gun on himself. But Johannesburg's Sowetan newspaper said family and friends wanted to remember them as a happy couple destined for a happy life together.

The groom's corpse would be dressed in a cream suit and his bride's in a gown for the ceremony, at which a priest in the rural village of Ceres in Limpopo will bless the union before the two are buried, the Sowetan said.

"In African culture, there is no death -- there is merely the separation of body and soul," said cultural expert Mathole Motshekga. "It is also important because the families are married together."

"This does not mean the relationship has irretrievably broken down."

I'll bet the couple will take this lying down......

I'll have to ask Martha Stewart about this, but is it appropriate that the attendees bring a wedding present? :D

Why would you laugh over this? It's horrible and insulting to their deaths and culture.

I'm sickened.

No, but I think him shooting her dead put a bit of a damper on it. :glare:

For some reason I don't think her spirit is going to be too happy about her family wanting her to be married to her murdering fiance. :Oo:

I don't think it's funny. :( I think it's strange and sad that her family would even want this to happen.

The whole thing is just sad.

I was thinking the same thing Micki, very sad indeed. :(

I think it mostly has to do with there culture, something I will never understand. If that is the parents wishes, then so be it. Who are we to judge what they do?

I personlly find the wedding part funny. I have never heard of someone after death getting married? Is this even legal? How does this go about? I mean, seriously, Do they get married while in there coffins? Is someone going to be escorting them? And I'm asking these questions out of curiosity, not out of dis-respect.

I'm not insulting anyone. The whole ridiculous thing pokes fun at the wedding ceremony.

How can they make their vows?

Would this girl want to be tied to a man who killed her?

Well I hope that I did not affend any ones feelings. If I did then i'm sorry. But I too was only laughing at the fact of a marrige of dead people. I would never ever laugh at anyone who is dead and poke fun of it. Especially sense the crap I have been through this year so I can kinda see both sides of the story. I wouldn't make fun of their culture eather. The only part that I find sad is that the poor woman is getting married to her murderer. Thats sad. But customs are custums and if thats what they want then so be it. But again, I wouldn't laugh at things like that. I just found it a little odd.

I am sorry , but you do have to see it from both sides of the story ya know?

I really don't think anyone here was making fun of the people or the culture. It seems like people just think the idea of two dead people getting married is kind of funny. I honestly don't think anyone ment to be offensive in any way.

We would laugh over this because .... it's funny.

No, not funny that he killed her, obviously. Anyone knows that is not why. I'm sorry, but two dead people getting married IS funny. No one is making fun of their deaths or their culture, for Pete's sake. But the visual of dead people being married IS funny.

I highly doubt anyone from their tribe is going to read our little website here and be offended.

Twister dog that's exactly what I was trying to say, only you worded it better :)

When I read the story this is what I pictured.

For those who don't know they are skeletons from the Day of the Dead in Mexico.

I don't know why I can't get that picture to post. I've never had problems before.

What I'm saying is, if this happened in the States I doubt we'd be posting about it and laughing. It would strike us more as sick and depressing. Instead, people here seem to think it's a real knee slapper.

Why is it funny that they're burying the dead in their wedding clothes and giving them a wedding blessing? We don't know enough about the story...could it have been a suicide pact? Are the parents simply honoring them?

Again, I don't see how two dead people being buried and their family having them in wedding dress and blessed to help cope with their loss as amusing.

I have to agree. It IS funny.

I don't think anyone's making fun of their culture. I for one would think dead people getting married was funny no matter where it was being done. Its just...weird. Very strange.

I don't think thats fare to say. To be honest with you I didn't catch where they were from as my frined IMed me about it, I then asked some questions and asked her for the link and she sent it to me, I never took the time to read this well enough to tell you where they came from, I just skimmed it and posted it. (I tend NOT to remember minor details like that!)

I don't judge people by where they come from, if that happened here in the states I would laugh and joke just as I was now. I don't think it makes a diffrence.

I don't see anything funny about some guy shooting his bride-to-be.....

I do find it bothersome that the bridesmaids ain't gonna catch that bouquet.

There are many people who bury their loved ones dressed in
'different' styles of clothes. I want to buried in a Speedo....

Not.

There's a great honeymoon joke in there, but I'll let you all come up with your own..

I'm on a joke holiday.....I'm waiting for the convention!;)

No, you're wrong ... no matter where it happened, it would still be ridiculous and amusing. Again ... NO, NOT the deaths, the "wedding".

The movie was "Weekend At Bernie's", and "Weekend At Bernie's 2"--the first one was a little bit funny.:)

Now, I hope everyone remembers this story.

I lost the rental on a tux once.

The wedding took place at the practice before the actual wedding day....The groom had some 'unfinished business' with a 'woman' who crashed the wedding rehersal and swore to blow up the wedding.

The priest was so shaken that her married the pair right then and there. I lost the rental and a two days off from work....I wasn't at the practice so I even missed out on that..

How seriously sick do you have to be do do something like that?

How's about the parents???
Not only did they get jacked for a wedding- two funerals to boot....

Ain't love grand?

The movie is Weekend at Bernies...I think in one part the dead guy came to life when this stupid little calypso tune started to play. I remember watching it as a kid lol.

As far as this goes, to each thier own. I myself wouldn't want to be married to a guy that even shot me, much less killed me! yeesh! But who are we to question peoples motives, the only people that know the truth are well...dead.
