Ok, here's the problem. I cannot think of a name to name my new kitty. I just got her from my sister for an early Christmas present. The kitty is so tiny and cute. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif (as they all are.) She is a calico persian. She is mostly very dark brown. There is an orange stripe down her face and she has other tiny patches of color on her. I cannot think of a name for her. I would like to have a common Female name for her. One of my other cat's name is Lucy. I was thinking about naming her Molly. What do you think? Any other opionions out there?? http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/confused.gif

I used to have a calico cat years ago. Coincidently, I lived in WV at the time. Anyway, the cat was female, had a dark head with an orange stripe down the middle. I named her Gizmo after the character in the movie "Gremlins". As her personality came out the name was more than perfect.

Just my two-cents. Enjoy your new fuzz-ball of joy!!!!!

I have a new kitten calico = Julie...and I
didn't have enough guts to name her what I
always said that I'd name my next cat.

Everyday day of my life I say to both of my
cats and every cat that I've owned before:the
imortal words "you are so bad" !

Be gutsy name it "sobad"...by the way..I'm not yelling when I'm saying this to them..I'm always laughing............charlie

You say you would like a 'common Female name' for your calico persian kitty. This sounds just like me. I also prefer common names. Not always easy, I must add. One of my first cats was a male and I named him David. Well, one day I was outside looking for him and calling him when a neighbour opened the window and screamed: 'what is it?'.....
All I can say is go for your first impression.

Your new baby sounds just like my son's cat, Poppy. She has a ginger inverted triangle on her face. I always like cat names which end in "-y" - how about Holly as she is a Christmas present, but early.

Good luck! Let us know what you choose!

Samual J Cat, Gizmo won't work http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif I have a shih tzu named Gizmo... she looks exactly like a little mogwhy (SP?) but she is black and white...and she has really big eyes.
Helen-Great idea...unfortunately my sister has a kitten from the litter and is naming her Holly. I have said for a while now that I am going to name my next cat Molly, but Holly and Molly sound funny. I guess it's not like they are living in the same house...but it sounds funny. And yes Pat I do like the common names and two syllables that end in "y" for a female. I don't know why. I origionally wanted a male orange cat and was going to call him oscar...I think that it sounds cute http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I think I am going to go ahead and name her Molly since it was the first name I thought of. Thanks everyone for giving me your ideas!

I know you said you liked common names but I think Carmel would be a good name for her. I also like Molly, I picture someone that is sweet when I think of the name, great for a kitten. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Molly sounds cute... I like that name. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

BTW, not knowing a name for a kitten reminds me to my Katz. When she came to my place more than 14 years ago, I couldn't think of a name , everything I came up with wasn't good enough for her IMO. In the meantime, I started to call her Katz (short for 'Katze', which means 'cat' in German) and one day I realized she accepted that name - and so she was my Katz for rest of her life! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I like Molly, too. My grandmother had a cat named Molly and she always perked up when I said it! Go with Molly, but just keep in mind that for a shorter version of her name would be "Mol" or "Mols." There's my 2 cents.

I love Molly, but my daughter had a precious calico long-haired cat once and called her Cally pronounced Cal lee. like in Calico.

She definately is a Molly. No other name would be so perfect

Yeah! Molly is good, I really like it. It's close to a name I have if I ever got a tricolour; "Dolly" ie dolly mixture candy. The only other name I'd give thought to before reading these posts, is "Cookie". I have to say "Ethel" cracked me up, I love it http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif!

HowieDawn: How many in the litter? If you have Molly, and your sister has Holly, how about Dolly, Folly, Rolly (in case there's a boy), any others?

Molly is a fine name and if that's the one you came up with first, it is probably HER name, if you get my meaning. I have often dallied on naming a pet because I figured it would "let me know" what it wanted to be called, except the last few. D'Artagnon was named before I got him, so we just had to find a cat to fit the name and he was a trip. k'Treva (my JRT doggie person) was named for a group of healers in Mercedes Lackey's "Valdemar" books, and Elyssium will be the name of my next JRT puppy (whom I will get sometime next year!!). For the most part, tho', Monocle got her name because of the round gray spot around one eye and Shiloh (JRT mix doggie) was so shy the first time we saw her at the shelter that she had to have a name that contained that in it, hence, Shiloh.

Hope Molly grows up to be as sweet-tempered as her name indicates.

I am not sure how many were in the litter. Also, I have found out that molly is a tortie instead of a calico...learn something new every day http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif
