New rose breasted cockatoo!

I'm so excited! Upstairs right at this very moment is a BEAUTIFUL rose breasted cockatoo! His name is barney (6 years old) and is very sweet and loving. Im so happy! We have had a sun conure in the past but i have really always had my heart set on a rosie. Luckily, there was one for only $600 WITH a huge cage!!!! I was amazed, and of course my mom was too. She LOVES birds, and drove all the way to cape cod and back to get him. He is so sweet, it was definately worth it!!!!!! Just thought i would fill you in on the new addition to our family.

Barney is a girl, not a boy. The iris in a cockatoos eye will tell you the sex of the bird... Females have a reddish brown color iris and males have a black iris. Barney's eyes are reddish brown.

The lady we bought her from told us the same thing, and she thought he/she was still a boy?? She had him for six years. I dont really see red in his eyes but i dont have anything to compare it too either.

I LOVE rose breasted cockatoos!!!! We just saw one last week for a nail/wing trim and he was sooooooo sweet!! They are the perfect sized bird, not huge like an umbrella, although, I'd love one of those too. ;)

I'm so jealous of you! I want a "Barney"! But, with my kitties, there's just no way. The parakeets excite them enough. :eek:
