I think we should send some PT kitties to Athens for the Kitty Olympics! We have some real talents here, that's for sure!

Lily however knows she wants to go (with Luna as her personal assistant) and get the gold for Germany in high jumping. She has purrfected her style this morning:

http://www.tillyschanze.de/pix/lily161.jpg

LOL, it's so difficult to take these photos! She was jumping so high that her head was getting out of the picture! I'll keep on trying (she was going for flies)! :)

<shouldn't be here, got a lot of work to do, but had to submit this to make sure T & P didn't miss the deadline for the competition>

T & P would like to join the Synchro Kitties competition. This was last year as they were practicing. I HOPE they've gotten a bit better since then since you can see there are some flaws - tails wrong way, Tubby needs to stretch further, positions could be better. If they haven't gotten any better, they're no competition for the German team. ;)

PS - this was a sequence of pics I took. They just happened to be sitting there - synchronizing - and I happened to have my camera in hand - what luck! Then I used the unfreez program to put them together like this.

I guess Imagestation doesn't allow .gif images so I'll have to attach it.

They may well be good enough for that, but they can see they are not good enough for a podium finish in that event. What fierce competition this event has attracted!

They feel they have a better chance in the wrestling event, or even the mud wrestling!

I wrote this a while back for the haiku thread.....
-------------------------------------------------------
Some days I'm treated
to the greatest show on earth
watching my cat play

An Olympic cat
The balance beam, sprints measured
in rooms, not feet

On your mark, get set-
a crouch explodes into speed
room to room to room

Finish line in sight
across the line, breaking tape
a world class time

A marathon scratch???
walking cat rear, balance-walks
across the sofa back

A long jump across
from arm chair to bed mattress
what extension, form!

a rhythmic gymnast
a stretching leg, an arched back-
a judge's score here?

I can judge my cat
on ability and grace
and his love for me

but in one event
my cat wins a gold medal
is napping a sport?

Pet Talk Catalympics Have Opened.

Dateline-Internet, All Across the World.

The Pet Talk Olympics officially opened today with the
Parade of Kittens (Cats). Since the participants have been resting and napping in order to marshall all their strength for the upcoming Games, there wasn't much of a parade. They all sauntered in at their leisure.

Any cat owner will tell you that getting a cat to compete is a major
accomplishment-getting them to march into the stadium, in order, is downright impossible.

Some of the events to be contested for the next two weeks, or however long the participants interest lasts, are new in the world of cat-letics.

The only departure from the Hooman Olympics is that every cat will receive a purrfect 10 score and a gold medal. This eliminates a judging scandal like those pesky skating judges tried to pull off a few years ago in Utah.

I see the Olympic Flame has been lit.......Or is that a laser pointer??

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!

Day One.

All the athletes not all arrived yet.
The Canadians are still waiting for more athletes to show.

The European teams looks strong. Viewing the team photos
you can see the fire in their eyes.

The Brits, Danes and Germans all have representatives ready to take advantage of the fact that they have the home field advantage for the Games.

The American team has a large contingent in attendance, this year playing as a visiting team.

----------------------------------------

The medals were unveiled at a special ceremony during the opening ceremonies.

The circular medals were designed with a simplistic and tasteful
rendition of a cat in the "Are YOU talking to ME?" pose.

One athlete was over heard to say, "I am going to treat MY medals like cat toys,
When I get home, I'll leave all my medals all over the floor just to remind my owner who is in charge ...."

--------------------------------------------

We'll try to stay on top of all the Games and try to bring you
the latest scores. Our reporters will follow the same schedule as the competitors.

"Yawn.......Is it time to wake up and do something?"

Barbara
08-11-2004, 12:53 PM

DAY TWO

We've had some amazing performances so far today!

The cat flying, stretching and wrestling preliminaries have produced some solid results for the teams. We have seen some
world records fall and perfect 10 scores all the way around.

Every discipline seems to have their star and the world is urging on their favorite athlete in each round. The fan reactions can be heard in every corner of the planet, from pole to pole, sea to sea..

Has anyone seen the Aussies and Kiwi teams???

The first rounds of the pitiful meowing competition should begin this afternoon!

And the Aussie's have their first competitor at the athlete's village,

Also the finals on the Cat Flying competition should begin later on this evening..

Day three recap...

Confusion reigns at the two venues.
----------------------------------------

The final cat flying/leaping finals have begun.

At the stadium next door the meowing preliminaries also began.

Fans watching the Flying competition heard the athletes yowling for attention and this caused concerned afficianados to leave the flying arena and crowd into the meowing venue with sacks of treats and kind words for them.

After officials reassured the concerned fans that the athletes were merely warming up and in no need of treats, scritches or headbumpies, they were herded back to the building where the
cat flying finals were to continue.

Cat Meowing
------------------------------------------

Cat Meowing is a realtively new sport at these 2004 games.
It takes it's roots from begging for treats, attention or no reason at all!

Owners were expected to run to where the meowing came from and attend to the heart wrenching cries for ???? It's been one of the oldest disciplines across history and it's making it's debut here in Athens.

Aussie team arrives
-------------------------------------------

The slow boat from China docked and finally the Aussie contingent has arrived. When asked about the delay a team spokesman only said, "Who knew there'd be rats on the boat?
We were able to combine some practice, hunting and all around
fun on the trip over, We lost track of time......"

Welcome Aussies!!

Now this is a mystery wrapped in an enigma....

When I played 'Pitiful Fister' neither Cassy or Livvy were in the room. Both came running, Cassy leapt into the printer to be next to the speaker; Livvy STRETCHED to get as close as possible. What was he saying?

When I continued on to play 'Pitiful Lily', Livvy left the room and Cassy (ears still alert) tried to shove his head threw the window screen. Now just what was SHE saying???

Cat Boxing prelims
------------------------
The prelims of the cat boxing discipline have been a rough and scramble for position going into the final rounds. The rumor circulating the athlete's village that there is a blind competitor from the U.S. that may make his Olympic apperance soon.

Cat Meowing finals
--------------------------

After a spectacular final round (all participants were give purrfect scores and gold medals) Fister's short and pleading meow was judged as "best in show". Taped replays of his final "meow" were played across the Olympic Village- guaranteeing extra treats for all the competitors.!

Cat Flying Finals.
---------------------------

Cooper, Mango nd Lily represented their countries and owners with some fantastic leaps in the finals. Cooper, who finished his set with the "Look Mom, I'm Superman" belly splash drew screams of approval from the fans. Lily, with a Riverdance style
routine was also a crowd favorite. Mango used pure natural talent to end the final round competition.

Fans were so stunned by his final leap they had no time to point their cameras at him. It was a breathtaking event, punctuated with flying felines from all over the world.

-------------------------------

Rowing and CAT-noeing.

The combined rowing and cat-noeing competitions are in the beginning rounds

The Cat-alonia team, aptly named because in true Catalympics style, decided that rowing was a bit to much for them and they decided to drop their oars and take a "CAT"-nap. They floated down the their lane while sunning under the hot Athens sun.

The Aussie team, a bit late, but accounted for, will compete in the single , double and 3-cat sculls along with the traditional last Catalympic event, sleeping!!

Kirsten
08-15-2004, 03:34 PM
Now here comes - finally - the official introduction of the cat-alonian team:

Day 6 updates!

Cat Flying medals awarded.
-------------------------------------
The medals in the three way tie were awarded last night

The ceremony to the awards turned into a multinational free for all when the all the winners decided to jump onto the platform at once. There was only one incident that the hosts were concerned about. A floor fan was knocked over, causing one official to note,
"Everything was going well until the 'kit hit the fan'......"

Cat boxing prelims are still open!
----------------------------------------

The preliminaries of Cat Boxing are still open to the cat-letes.

Cat-noeing and rowing.
-----------------------------

Heats are still being run at the rowing venue. While actual rowing may not be seen by some of the fans, it is fun watching the sleeping cats lazily floating on the course.

Cat alympic Notes.
------------------------
Free style and Greco-Roman wrestling competition will begin next Monday.

The Beach Volleyball Venue will open on Saturday, the court sand was cleaned, scooped and baking soda was added to the suface.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

A note to the competitors and their trainers.

In order to properly cover the Games the media would like to remind everyone that pay careful attention to the events as they are posted!

A reminder post will insure that the participants are given the exposure they deserve!

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a373/kuhio98/Kuhio%20Halo%20Cammie/fb84fa1f.jpg

Pepper's Beam also was disqualified. Though points were given for originality.

Halo has also decided not to compete in the swimming contests. Desired results were not achieved and her coach suffered minor injuries during practice.

Sorry Team USA. Looks like Halo and Pepper can't be counted on this year.

Yes, gold medal material for sure, but unfortunately not quite a perfect 10. That durn orangie just couldn't get the tail right. Must have been the pressure from all the press this team has been getting. ;) :D

T & P would like to withdraw from the synchro kitty competition. They say they've been too distracted with all the travel to practice much, and they just can't get it together. Here's an example of why they are withdrawing. :o

Update Day 7
----------------

After reviewing the pictures of the Swedish athlete, Tess, on pot
the judges have decided to allow her to compete.

"She's definitely on (a) pot. But it's purrfectly legal!" stated one of the judges. "She's good to go!"

Swimming reinstated

Due to the number of requests from spectators the swimming portion of the Games will go on!

Partial listing of Cat-noeing and Rowing winners.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Tigger won gold in the Single Cat-noe competition.

Allen won gold in the single scull.

And the Catalonia team won in the team scull. Alas, they were too busy napping to pick up their medals!

The Synchronized Games begin tomorrow
------------------------------------------------

The most anticpated part of the games will begin on Wednesday.
The synchronized (team) sports will begin. Teams from all over the world will contest the disciplines of eating, sleeping and lounging. the highest individual cat-letes will be selected from each team for singles honors!

Day 8

Synchro events begin today.
----------------------------------

The synchro events, individual and team disciplines, have begun.

Team Eating is first on the schedule. After the Cat-letes have finished eating the Team Sitting and Cleaning will begin.

There will be a short break in the action and then the competition will resume with the Team Stretch and Lounge.

Wrestling
-------------------------
The wrestling games will begin tomorrow, with the finals next Tuesday.

Sink swimming
-------------------------
The last minute flip flops of the organizing committee have led to the addition of Sink Swimming to the games.

Boxing.
------------

The boxing competition has been quite a thrill for the spectators.
Matches have started out as boxing, then rapidly turn into wrestling matches followed by the cat-letes chasing each other thru the venue.

It also noted that the participants mistake the
sound of the bell for one of those little plastic balls that rings when you throw it.;) which may be a cause to the break in the action.

Far be it from me to cast aspergions, but I suspect the large, tan cat sitting on top of the pillows is genus Ursus Stufficus, and not a noble feline at all. Please have the judges look into this, too.

Yours for purity in the Cat Olympics. We must not let our cathletes be ... tainted by association!
