View Full Version : Ahhh..My computer is driving me crazy...Question!

Okay, everytime I click on something...ANYTHING at all on my whole computer(a thread, to reply..etc..etc..etc), it freezes for a few seconds(sometimes 5 but sometimes almost a minute), and I can't move my mouse.

I hate it!!! It wasn't always like that. I want to be able to click on something and just go right into it, instead of sitting here waiting for it to let me move

Does/did anyone have this problem?? Or know why it does this?

Thanks

Suggestions:
Reboot?

Do those windows updates (start -windows updates)

Hmm. Do you have much disk space free?

Try running a spyware program.

When it happens, do you many programmes open? Have you tried to delete your cookies/temporary internet files? Have you checked how much space you have left on your machine?

I'm sure some computer expert here can help with suggestons of other things to try. ;)

Good luck! :)

Hmmm... Have you defragmented lately? Try that also.

Run Windows Update to make sure your system is fully patched with all the latest critical updates.
Empty temporary internet files, the recycle bin, delete your e-mail deleted mail box items. run disk clean-up and defrag.
Do a virus scan of your system with the latest virus definitions.
Run Ad Aware or any other (free) spyware removal tool. Remember to get the latest update/definition files before running it.

Reboot, reboot, reboot ..... HTH

Go to www.download.com and search for a program called Ad Aware *it hunts and gets rid of spyware and adware that can infect your computer through websites*, too many spyware files could be eating system resources. *I hate spyware :p*

Ad Aware is free to try, and the free version really isn't all that limited.

Also, a disk defragment couldn't hurt. Id also scan for viruses just to be safe. If you don't have a virus checker, a good one is AVG for windows. It is free and it doesn't miss ANYTHING :D

Download Spybot S & D. It'll find spyware that Ad Aware doesn't. Also a great online virus scan is www.trendmicro.com. Run 'Housecall', and it'll find and fix any viruses or trojans that you have.

Here's the direct link: Trendmicro Housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/)
Click on 'Scan now. It's free.' and follow the steps.

Hey Robyn, are you running windows 98 or XP? I know with XP it will analyze your hard drive and tell you if you need to defrag or not.

If it stayed at 0% for that long, maybe try it again before bed and let it go all night. I've done that on our desktop that runs 98 before. It took FOREVER for it to start and even longer for it to finish, lol.

   That may be your problem! Wow 50+ already? Yikes, girl!

This is from their website, it says non cleanable items can just be deleted. :)

If HouseCall finds a virus:

If HouseCall finds a virus on your PC, it means that your current antivirus solution is not working properly.
When HouseCall finds a virus, it will list the name of the virus as well as the name of the infected file. Click on the virus name to learn more about it.
Click on the "Clean" button to remove the virus.
Certain viruses, such as Trojans, scripts, overwriting viruses, and joke programs which are identified as "uncleanable", should simply be deleted.

I usually run it once a week, or once every two weeks. (more often on Hubby's computer, lol) I also run Spybot S & D every day.
