These two babies are from a litter of five born to (yet another Grrr) abandoned cat. The vet recommended euthanasia and (no pun intended), Seeing how well Magoo does without eyesight, I said no. ;) They're plump little things about 3-4 weeks old by my guess! Mom cat has the most gorgeous huge eyes which dominate her face! No pics of her yet, but I'll take some soon. ;)

One baby boy, and one baby girl :D

Poor sweet infant kitty :(

As they get older, mom will be tested etc. and put up for adoption along with her three healthy looking ones...these wee ones I'll try to find a home together for. :)

They could be transported to Tennesee by a transport group! Tey're much too young to leave yet though. It happens all the time that cats and dogs get transported across the country. ;)

Once again, QSA, you amaze me! I'm so glad that you are going to give these little ones a chance at LIFE! Magoo is an inspiration and I'm so glad that you considered him when you were making this decision. God bless you, QSA!!! We're praying for the babies, that they'll find a home together and live long.

AWWWWWWe! Jan they just melt my heart! I swear if I didn't have a house full I would take in only blind cats. I have learned so much from Magoo. These babies will actually do better than him since they have never known sight. I hope they find a forever home soon so they can learn their new suroundings and play, play, play!! Thank you for standing up for these two cuties. I hope the wonderful home comes along soon.
Please keep us posted on these little ones.

How will they fare better than Magoo with not ever having sight? Seems to me that it would be an advantage to once know what walls and windows and chairs looked like? Please educate me on this, I am very curious!! How is magoo doing btw??? (and you of course!)

If the shelter I bring kitties to was able to place a three month old kitten with cataracts, chances are pretty good these little tykes may get a home too. Provided they don't need to have what's left of their eyes enucleated. :( It looks to me as though an early on infection blinded them. Poor tiny babies were born (or at least nesting) in a small pickup truck bed, that was backed into a garage. Fiberglass insulation and other rubble was tossed into the truck. Insulation can cause problems all on its own! Spun glass and newborn kitten skin etc. :(

I think they could use an eye specialist to clean
out any left over debree.
Did the vet suggest an eye water solution for them?
Just to help with any stinging pain they may have.

Carla, All the vet suggested was "euthanise them". Nope...won't do unless they're suffering in some way. I wonder if the vets opinion would be different if his wife gave birth to a blind child? And cats don't bellyache about their handicaps unlike some people. *sigh*

I'll look into this.
Maybe there's some kind of very safe solution we could use.
Water base of course.

I agree with Carla- since the vet dismissed them with euthanasia.... it may be that alternatives to relieve pain, discomfort, pressure, cause of blindness were not adequately explored. jan, you were there, do you think the vet visit was adequate or not?

It was a dash through the door, and dash out event. I didn't have the money to pay for an office exam, and the clinic was busy. I'm going to wait until they're a bit closer to 8 weeks rather than four, and bring them in then. The don't seem to be in any pain or discomfort. They're tottering about exploring, and learning to play. They don't even have teeth coming in yet.

Oh Jan my heart is breaking and yet overjoyed! I'm sick at the the attitudes vets have about blindness! I guess there are so many homeless beautiful sighted cats that they figure these little ones don't stand a chance. If a good home can be found they will have a wonderful life! Magoo is very happy now and enjoys life just fine. He's a little slower at doing things but that's about the only difference.
I'm overjoyed because you are sticking up for them and letting them have the chance at life! I hope you find a good home for these babies because the sooner they learn their new environment the better. Of course they will adjust when the time comes but it would be wonderful to find a forever home for them while they are still young.
Thank you for taking such good care of them!!!

I agree they need a chance! They're way to young to make a life & death descision about, and Magoo is such an incredible inspiration in my choice to give them a chance. I can already see them exploring a bit with their noses, and whiskers. They can barely walk at this rate they're so young, but I think they'll adjust fine given time.

They are a very cute pair! I'll get pictures of the whole family soon. Mama has the most gorgeous ticked coat, and huge saucer sized eyes that are a lovely green. My MooShoo is blind. Thanks to his WONDERFUL breeder (NOT!!!) he became blind because she failed to treat a herpes virus in his eyes, causing scar tissue to form on his corneas.

I took him to an eye specialist after Moo had 3 surgeries to remove some of the scar tissue. The specialist said that anymore fiddling with his eyes could cause the herpes virus to return as it is triggered by stress.

So Moo, who has a wonderful sense of smell and personality to match, is also blind. These babies deserve to learn to live with their "limitations". I know they'll make someone very happy pets.

Keep up the good work!

Lisa, no you did not read too much into the post.

I PM Jan and told of her my situation right now and that I can not guarantee anything....but these 2 have just got my heart wrapped around their little paws. If all works out on my end and the kittens come back with a good bill of health then yes I'm thinking of taking them in....but I'm not promising anything yet.

I would so love to know that they can come live with you. That would be so nice for Magoo to have PT buddies!

These kitties are lovely and I am amazed at all of the things I have learned on this forum - about giving chances to these animals that would normally be deemed "unadoptable". I have never known that such loving folks existed and it does my heart good. DONNA! I never knew Moo was blind! Have you ever mentioned this?? I had no idea!! Bless you ALL.

Wow talk about team work! It would be wonderful if Meg and her husband adopt this precious pair, but no pressure of course. We all know how very hard it is to place adoptable cats, and how hard it will be for these wee ones to find a forever loving home One day at a time everyone right? ;) ;) ;) I think one is able to see shadows at least. He/she senses my approach, and sniffs the air. Little cuties all six (that includes the sweet and lovely mama). :D :D :D

Hi, I am a blind cat rescue & sanctuary if you need to place them in a forever home, I am available.

When my little Louie was a small kitten, the vet said the same thing to me... put him down he won't have quality of life. You tell that to him as he climbs trees, chases birds and climbs in my lap for rubs and kisses. A blind cat is just a cat, that can not see...they can have a wonderful quality of life!! You can see pictures of my blind cats and seeing cats on my web site.

Welcome to Pettalk! The kittens both have limited vision, and a home with a wonderful woman here on Pettalk (catlover4ever)! Gracie has probably 95% vision in one eye, and is likely blind in the other. Her brother Gabriel has a condition called "macropthalmia" (not vet diagnosed, but I've seen others with the same eyes). I'm so glad I didn't go with what the vet said (euthanise), but gave them a chance, and they have thrived! Thank you for your offer however, and being an avid rescuer I'm sure I'll come across others in need. If you read the newer posts, you'll be quite suprised at just how much progress these two have made in such a short time. ;) If you stick around you'll see plenty of them for years to come! :D Jan

Pippin puts in his thanks for not giving into the "short-sighted vet" and giving the little ones a chance. He was born blind and somehow made it to a shelter and then found his home with us. He lives a VERY normal life with his 4 brothers and enteretains us with pip-flips on the couch, races around the house chasing William and Tiger and is an A #1 mooch at dinner time!

Here's our boy and he says you're the BEST!

Hi there. I am pretty new to this board. I just love it and you guys are so cool. It is nice to find people who share the same love for cats as I do.

I have seen some of your posts about Magoo. My mom had a cat and he was blind. She named him Magoo as well. He looked very similar to your Magoo. I have a picture of him.

Does anyone know what happened with Gracie & Gabriel? I hope they got a home together and thrive.

Yes they have been with me since November of 2004. We were very hesitant to adopt these two because of their blindness but they have amazed my DH and I on a dialy basis since become part of the family 4 years ago.

Gracie had her real bad eye removed and has lost all sight in her other eye, but she is the best mouse catcher out of all my babies. Gabriel or Dude as we now call him gets into quite a bit of trouble and loves to play with Gracie as well as Vegas and Abner. They love to go outside and be supervised. They love to roll in the grass and catnip garden as well as chase bugs all over the place. I have no need in my house for a fly swatter because I have Gracie and Dude and they can narrow in on the smallest bug in the house and then devour it in seconds.

They have been the best addition to my family and I am so very glad that I adopted them. Here are a few recent photos of them.
