A friend of mine breeds English Bulldogs. These pics are a few months old, I'd forgotten to share them. I think English Bulldogs are such cute puppies!

Oh how cute!!!!

I have to ask a question, I heard once a long time ago that English Bulldogs, because of their body type, have a very hard time getting pregnant and giving birth, so most are artificially inseminated?? Is this true??:o

Usually, yes.... also, just about all litters from bulldog females have be born via c-section because of the position of the womb. :)

Yes, they are very difficult to breed. It costs them on average about $3000 a litter. Not only do they have to artificially inseminate them but they also have to have monthly checkups throughout the pregnancy. I am not sure if she has them by caeserean or natural. But he also had to invest on heat lamps and oxygen because the pups die easily.

I do wish they breed the bullie physique back some. It's because of the continually breeding to get the large head and small hips that gives them such trouble breeding and being born!

Look at this - a typical bulldog from 100 years ago. Isn't he just as cute? Bet his momma gave birth to him naturally, too!

That said, were those pups any closer, I'd snatch one up in a minute to give to Dad - he grew up with English bullie dogs!

Antonio's physique is about like that. I know what you mean though. They looked alot better back then. I am not positive but I think the female has them naturally. This is the second litter I have seen and they've never mentioned a c-section nor have I noticed a scar.

He's here right now, so I asked. They did have to have ceasareans.

soooo cute! I love the little wrinklebutts! my sister and her husband have a handsome 1 year old Bulldog, he is brindle and was such a cute puppy.. but a total monster! lol ;) theyre great dogs, though, for the right person who doesnt mind being ignored. a lot. Im good with my clingy mommas boy bc.

yeah, my sisters hubbys cousin also breeds show bulldogs and bred the #1 bully in the country, at one point. he was telling me about birth problems and how theyre a "manmade" breed that cannot mate naturally.. kinda wierd. Karen, that pic looks like what modern Olde English Bulldogs look like. theyre great dogs and much healthier typically, but people seem to love the new super squatty Bulldog. I lost the website, but my friend Katie sent me this thing about how Bulldog skulls have developed ever since they began showing, and breeding different bullies. It was so scary .. the skull from 100 years ago was very nicely built, strong, with a big jaw but not oversized and what looked like a great bite. Now, the average show Bulldog skull has a severe underbite, huge exaggerated jaws and just looked funny. although modern Bullies are adoooorable, I do kinda wish breeders would've kept up the old style. It looked much healthier. ah well, yet another breed mutated by the show ring...
