Rupert loves getting his exercise. He jumps so high when he trying to get those feathers on that string. But I'm having a major problem extending the life of his toys. He knows that they're ok to play rough with, but he likes to play so rough they don't last long, and some of these things can be pretty expensive. Any suggestions on extending the life of his favorite prey toys? Also, I don't really know what is appropriate for Rupert. he doesn't even notice that the stuffed bear I got him exists, what are some toy ideas an adolescent (nuetered) male kitty might show interest in?

For about the first 4 or 5 years of Ripley's life he was heck on toys. In fact my husband and I would make bets on how long a new toy would last.

Anyway, the one toy I got him that lasted a long time was a large denim covered catnip mouse. It took him almost a year to finally destroy that thing. Amazing really because most regular catnip mice wouldn't make it day.

I try to hide anything destructable (feathers on a string / "The Bird" toy, especially) when I'm not around, or else I'll come home and the feather toys will be killed. I find breaking out the feather toy only once every day or every other day helps it last a bit longer. As for smaller toys, I have a bucket I keep them all in, and rotate toys every 2-3 days. I usually leave 3 or 4 at a time out. Tito is an adolescent neutered male as well, and one of his favorite toys (besides ice cubes, paper towel rolls, milk jug rings and twistie ties) is a mouse that squeaks when you touch it! He loves batting that thing around! Here's a link to it, it's called the "Play-N-Squeak Mouse":
http://www.cattoys.com/playnsqueak.html
They also make a Play-N-Squeak Hedgehog, a Play-N-Squeak Fish, and Play-N-Squeak Mice on wands and doorhangers. I got mine at PetSmart, but you can buy them online too. :) All those toys on there are great. I want to get them the "Thing in a Paper Bag" next!

That thing in the bag would be shreded in about five minutes with Remus! It would be worth it to see his reaction though ;). A film worthy experence!

As far as indestructable toys...Remus is an adalecent nutered male and all he is interested in is bottle caps, bags, toilet paper *bad kitty!*...

Most toys get ignored or stashed behind the toilet

Im glad Rupert likes toys insted of feeling the need to act like a living paper shreeder lol!

Thought I would post a direct link so y'all can check out the Thing in a Bag.

http://store.yahoo.com/cattoys/thinginbag.html
http://store3.yimg.com/I/cattoys_1800_2566745
Thing in a Bag exterior may look like an ordinary brown lunch bag, but this cat toy is actually made from tear and claw-resistant material, making it extremely durable for even the most playful cat! Inside the bag are crinkly-sounding materials and a randomly activated motor that makes the “thing” come alive. The On and Off motion will have your cat wondering what’s rustling inside for hours! Requires three AA batteries (not included).
$12.99

Another couple of fun ones:
Motorized Squiggle Ball
http://store.yahoo.com/cattoys/motsquigbal.html
http://store3.yimg.com/I/cattoys_1800_3206213
We Love this toy! A small furry mouse is tethered to the 3" plastic motorized ball. When the ball rolls into a corner or against another object, it reverses direction to free itself - and continues to roll, all the while, the mouse goes along for the ride. Size AA battery not included.
$9.95

Zig-N-Zig Activity Ball
http://www.cattoys.com/zignzag.html
http://store3.yimg.com/I/cattoys_1800_561268
Crazy Zig-n-Zag activity ball has weight inside which creates an unpredictable roll. Active cats need mental stimulation and Zig-n-Zag is no ordinary roll on the kitchen floor. It's a challenging toy your cat is sure to love.
$3.99

Prices are USD. Don't they look fun for kitties? I think I'l get Tito a couple - maybe new toys will help him lose another pound like our vet wants him to. I am ADDICTED to Internet shopping!!!   Here I go again!! :D
