How much does your dog weigh?

I am just curious, how much does your dog weigh?

Dusty was 62 lbs at the vet yesterday.
Roxy was 50 lbs the last time I weighed her.
Sarah is 2.5 lbs.

They haven't been weighed for awhile but I think they are still pretty close to that. Tori may have gained a couple of pounds though since she is still growing.

Charlie weighs about 30 lbs and Chloe is around 28 or so. I think.... :)

Do you have a scale? Weigh yourself first, then hold your dog and step on the scale again. Subtract your weight and you've got your dog's weight!


Daphne is about 40lbs, give or take a couple.

Cocoa is 11lbs. She's supposed to be 9 though - my grandma gives her too many treats. lol

Our vet says they bouth could gain 7 - 10 pounds, but for being GSD's, it better to have them on the skinny side!!!

Oh so that's how you do it. I was going to try and get Mickey to stand on our scale, hehe.

The last time Mickey got weighed, he was 35lbs (about 5 pounds over what he should be). I know Shelties are typically 25lbs, but Mickey is big-boned and what the vet called "costaud" (which I think would translate to 'husky'). Anyways, since then, we have put Mickey on a diet and excercised with him more. I'm positive he's lost a lot of it.. especially all that fat he stored up during the winter. He even looks thinner. I can see a nice shape to him now even. :D I'll weigh him him later today. :)

Honey is 64 pounds, a good weight for her. If I remember correctly, her "high" was 74 pounds.

Zipper is unknown.......he has his annual checkup next month (August). All I know is that he is weighing too much!!! :eek:

Murphy gained two pounds in the last month or so and we are very happy about that. She had lost 15 pounds in the last year, but this week, she weighed in at 67 pounds! :D

Kai's 38 pounds. I think his ideal weight is somewhere around 35 pounds or so. I can still feel his ribs now but I'm aiming for maybe 32 pounds or so, so agility wouldn't be too hard on his body.

Perhaps he is thicker boned or more densely built, but I don't imagine he could significantly taller or longer in body. I once knew a golden named Sandy that belonged to a neighbor. That dog had a body build more akin to that of a great pyranees, even had the mammoth coat of one, though they swore he was pure golden.

Though he was 85 at his last weight check, he hadn't been 3 too long yet, he still may fill out a few more pounds in the next couple years. It seems my collies reached their maximum weights around 5 years old. Either way though, I still would not say he is "not that big." There is no doubt in my mind he's quite a big boy ;)

I only have a couple pictures of myself with him, and this one is not a good picture, but it at least gives some idea of his size... I'm sitting on the couch, he's sitting on the floor, and his head still nearly reaches my shoulder!

This isn't entirely true. 25 pounds is perfect for my two, but they are much bigger than what shelties are supposed to be. For a proper sized sheltie 25 pounds would be too heavy for most of them. :)

The best guideline to go by with your dog's weight is feel and sight, not a number on a scale, or in a breed book as every dog, even within the same breed, has a different build and carries weight differently.

Close your fist and run your fingerslightly over the back of your hand. Now run your finger over your knuckles. Finally run your finger over your other fingers.

Now stand over your dog and lightly run your hands over the dogs sides applying slight pressure. The key word is slight, as you can "find" ribs on the chubbiest dog by digging in. Now if your dog's side feels like the back of your hand it's probably at a good weight or slightly over. If it feels like your knuckles it's underweight. And if it feels like your fingers it's just right.
Also while standing over it you should be able to see a waistline, even on most coated breeds. If looking at it from the side you should be able to see a nice tuck up from the belly to the groin.

Overweight dogs are a pet peeve of mine. I hope the guidline I wrote helps. I know most of us here know how to tell if our dogs are overweight or not, but maybe some don't.

My Blaze weighs 79lbs. When I had him in for his heart worm test the vet said he needed to lose weight. I just had him in yesterday and another vet said he was perfect. I personaly think he should lose a few pounds, I can feel some fat around his ribs. But husband and daughter think he is fine. I am constantly telling them the amount of food to give him.:( Blaze loves food, but what dog would not like extra food?:)
