I know alot of you are awesome with search engines....

My grandfather passed away and my grandmother has his collection of bronze western sculptures made by Betty Saletta. The IRS wants to know their value and she isn't sure. I searched online and found her name, but no prices. Does anyone know where to look?

I think your best bet is to contact a museum and ask them if they know a certified appraiser. Tell them about your grandmother's situation and what you need to have done. I think that is probally your best bet.

Also, I'm sorry to hear of your grandfather's passing and I apologize if I am late in saying it. I'm not usually in the general section...but know my heart is there. --- Meg

That is probably what I'll have to do. I'm trying to foot as little work as possible because my grandmother has to list all of her assets for the IRS. We have alot of work to do because she has a home here and in Canada. (Which, btw for you Canadians, I may be up there sometime in August.) Apparently, their financial guy is in prison for embezzlement and they owe alot of money to the IRS.

Thank you about my grandfather. He passed away in May of cancer.

For an approximate estimate, search for similar items on eBay - that'll give you at least a clue.p

We "Googled" and found a reference to this Gallery >>>
Zantman Art Galleries (http://www.zantmangalleries.com/default.cfm)

They must have at one time had works by Saletta;
but the Current web site makes no mention of her.

See the "Contact Us" link on the left - they have 3 locations.
I'd CALL them and ask if they do appraisals of her work.

Note:
From "experience" with Mom's Estate - the IRS wants to
"see" a WRITTEN Appraisal (with a photo of the art / jewelry)
from a "Certified Appraiser"!
And a "Certified Appraiser" will *charge* for each Appraisal!

Many Jewelry Stores (NOT "pawn shops") do Estate Appraisals -
and/or point you to a Certified Appraiser.
