People have been asking for me to post new pictures of the six Desert Tortoises I have, so I went out today and did just that. ;)

This is Frankie, the oldest. We got him from a Wildlife rescue a few years ago. He's around 30 years old. He was brought in because he was run over by a car; he has a crack that goes down one side of his shell. Other than that, he's perfectely fine. :)

We also have five "baby" Desert Tortoises that my mom got from a friend. Their names are Phil, Percy, George, Bernie, and Roy. :p My mom named them, and I really don't know who is who. :o

This is the smallest of all of them, and my favorite.

And just as a size comparison, this is the biggest one and the smallest one together. Quite a difference.

I love desert tortises, I've always thought they were so cute. I've wanted one for a long time, but I don't have any place to keep it. One of the people I pet sit for has a desert tortise with only 3 legs, he is so cute. I love feeding him cactus berries because I love how his little face gets all red from the juice.

Thanks Ash and Laura. :)

Yep, they live outside. We have a little area made just for the "baby" tortoises, and Frankie usually gets full run of the backyard. We also have a shed made just for them when it's time to hibernate.

The dogs are fine with them. They don't bother them, and likewise with the tortoises. ;)

LOL, well, my mom actually thinks they're all females; which means the names don't fit them very well. :o

What unusual pets! Hehehe, they are terribly cute too! I was thinking about getting a couple of Yellow bellied Sliders. Does anyone know about these aquatic turtles?

You do know how to tell male from female right? The males will have a very obvious indentation on the bottom of their shell to make room for the females shell during mating. At such a young age they will just barely begin to indent if they are male, so it may take a bit longer to know who is male, and who is female. :)

Oh, great pictures....I haven't seen any of tortoises yet!:D
What is their normal lifespan? My favorite is the group shot...I love that 1 but, they're all cute!

Thank you! :D

Their average lifespan is around 80-100 years. They'll probably outlive us! ;) They make wonderful pets.

Cass, yep, we do. :) My mother checked the other day, and she's almost positive all of them are female.

Great pictures! I haven't seen desert tortoises in years. My great grandmother used to have them in her backyard when I was a little girl.
