View Full Version : How do you pronounce your dog's name?

Kfamr

Just within a few days of having Kiara, SO many people have pronounced her name wrong.

No one's ever had troubles with Simba, but with Nala it's always something different.

So.. How do you pronounce your dog's name?

Simba = Sim-BUH
Nala = Nah-LUH
Kiara = Key-Are-UH

I try to keep my dog's names simple so that they're easy for me to pronounce :) So I haven't had any issues with Maddie, Murph or Oz. Everybody gets those right. But I have noticed with Gully, most people say Scully. Guess more people know of X-files vs Gulliver's Travels and they can't wrap their mind around it actually being Gully. So I've started introducing him as "Gully as in Gulliver".

Jack - j-ack
Snoopy - snoo-pee
Taggert - tag-gert
Oreo - o-re-o
Dazzi - day-ze - or like daisy

Sorry had to be smart aleck about the first 4. I didn't name Dazzi, the man who game me her did and his only stipulation was I keep her name and the way he spelled it and since he gave her, her kennel, her beds, her food, her toys, her leashes, her tie-outs, her brushes I did as he wished. If people just see the spelling they call her da (like in dad) zee.

Some have pronounced her name, 'K-eye-uh', but it's rare.

My friend Emily has a dog named Heywood and while taking him for a walk, the neighbor was calling him, "Heyward". *laughs*

:D I'm a sucker for unique names. With the unique names come lots of mispronunciation.

Kai: Eye with a K.. K-eye.

Kaedyn: Kay-din

Most people get Kai's name right. But once, someone thought I said "Daisy". :confused: How the heck do you get Daisy from Kai? LOL

Kaedyn has been called many things other than his actual name. One lady thought he was "Katie".

LOL LOL It's just like people mispronouncing my own name when it comes to my pets. Although, I usually have a tendency of choosing a little more off-the-wall names for both my cats and dog.

Priya = Pree-yah
Marius = Mar-ee-us
Sergei = ser-ghee
Scooter = well, nobody usually has any problems with that one! LOL :p

I don't think anyone could mess up Tommy unless perhaps they spoke a different language with different pronunciations. Tom-mee.

Tasha is pretty easy too, Tah-shuh, although I have had some people try to call her Sasha after I introduce her as Tasha. I guess Sasha is a more common name :)

The only one of opurs I think may cause problems is Cincy
(Sin-See) and that is more likely if you aren't familiar with Cincinnati, Ohio, the "Queen City" our little girl was named after :)

I don't know if I ever told you this. But when you first posted about nameing him I always thought (probly for the first 2 or 4 months you had him) you named him Mike ee Like Mikey. Then I finally found out it was Mickey, like mickey Mouse. I was SHOCKED!!! But, when I read your post and such I still call him Mikey, I never call him Mickey. It's soooo weird to even think that his name is Mickey because to me for so long he has been Mikey. ::weird:: I can't imagine ANYONE calling him Mickey, only Mikey. :rolleyes:
