California Man Invents Talking Tombstones

BURLINGAME, Calif. -- The next time you visit a cemetery, don't be afraid if you hear a voice from the dead.

A California inventor has come up with the idea of a talking tombstone.

According to Reuters, Robert Barrows, of Burlingame, Calif., has invented a tombstone that will display a video message from the deceased.

The talking tombstone will include a flat touch screen and house a computer with a microchip memory or hard disk.

It will be powered by electricity from the cemetery's lighting system.

Barrows told New Scientist magazine that if his patent is granted, he hopes people will leave tombstone videos alongside their wills

Richard,

I read that item about talking tombstones.:D I thought it was
mildly wierd, but after all, it is California. :D Can't you just
imagine a nagging mom leaving a message to her kids or a
message for her husband. She could still nag from the grave. :D

LOS ANGELES July 9, 2004 — State Education Secretary Richard Riordan jokingly told a child her name, Isis, meant "stupid dirty girl," prompting widespread criticism and posing a quandary for the man who appointed him, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Didn't he read the DaVinci Code??? Even I knew that Isis meant Egyptian goddess!:D:rolleyes:

"I KNOW you're still doing XYZ, I can see you!! Don't think I don't know where you sleep!"

Do these things have an off function? lol.

Siriously, it kind of does seem like a good idea...seems like it would get kind of painful after a while though.

Plane lands on freeway

Pilot suspected of being intoxicated

By Amy Raisin Darvish
Staff Writer

CASTAIC -- An apparently drunk pilot landed his plane on the Golden State Freeway near Castaic on Saturday, then clipped a van and flipped over before coming to a stop on the shoulder, authorities said.

Marc South, 53, of Eloy, Ariz., suffered minor injuries when his two-seater Cessna came down at noon in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, north of Lake Hughes Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. No other injuries were reported.

"When the officers got out there they smelled alcohol. He was extremely intoxicated," said Officer Wendy Hahn of the CHP's Newhall station. "It looks like he was trying to land and overtook a van going the same direction. He clipped the van and flipped over."

CHP officers said they took him into custody on suspicion of flying while intoxicated.

Hahn said the pilot, the plane's sole occupant, was flying from Arizona to Sacramento and made two stops before the crash. South stopped in Blythe, Calif., for fuel and then in La Verne for food, Hahn said.

South was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for X-rays, Hahn said.

The slow lane was closed for more than four hours, slowing northbound traffic through the Newhall Pass.
