Im just curious about this, because alot of different vets have different ages for getting spayed/neutered, and also some people have different reasons for waiting longer to spay/neuter...

You can pick as many answers as you want(for people with more than one dog)

Wiggles was around 2 years old(I have no idea why we waited)

Piddle was 8-10 months old

Jasper was 5 and a half months

Mine were both spayed/neutered as adults at the shelter before I adopted them.

I get my fosters fixed when they're 8 weeks old

Sadie and Cincy were both spayed at 6 months.

Spot we are unsure of, but based on his weight gain and the limited other vet imformation we have, he was about 6 months when he was neutered.

Roxey-when she was about 4 months old.

Huney-just shortly after we got her. Since we don't really know her age I said 1-2.

And Angus-he was 10.

Maddie, Murph and Oz were all neutered at 6 mos.

With Gully though, I'm going to talk to the vet first about pros and cons of waiting longer than 6 mos for his bone development. I'll make a decision after I get his opinion.

My vet said "five months" for females and that's what I adhered to, gladly! :) I was happy to never experience a "heat" with either Lilly or Honey. :)

lets see, happy was spayed at like 10 months I think. she was schedualed for 8 but she got sick and it had to be delayed. Ripley about 9 months, perky- a year, misty is not getting fixed in all likleyhood, if she does not pass all genetic testing she will be spayed, Blair may or may not, according to new research neutering(as in only males NOT females) does more harm then good, because the things that can go wronge after a neuter are major and not fixable, however the things a neuter can prevent are very minor, and easily fixable. that is according to new scientific research, so my mom is not going to neuter Blair I guess, but I dunno its her dog.

Molly was spayed at 5-6 mos. and at the same time she got a big hernia removed.

Annie was spayed at a little over a year (a few mos. ago) after she had her puppies. We didn't breed her intentionally.

Bailee isn't spayed yet, but she will be getting spayed soon, probably a week or so after Felony.

Felony will be neutered within this week or next, depending on when we can get the appointment. He will be 5 mos. old on July 22nd.

Bella was spayed at approximately 6 months. I'd have to go look for the cancelled check to tell you for sure. Since we have no positive idea about Ripley's real age and the vet suggested he was probably 3 when we got him in 2003, the answer for him is 3! He was neutered very shortly after coming to live with us. I would also would have to look at the checkbook to give you a real accurate answer. :)

Bob was two.
(Four years ago in September. I remember the year well because I'd given up smoking on his birthday, around six weeks before he was neutered.)

I spayed my dogs when I got them. Sarah is 6 months old and I haven't spayed her yet. She is going to have some teeth pulled and some work on her tear ducts done while she is under. I am afraid to put her under and do all that work right now because she is only 2 lbs. When she gets a little bigger, I'll spay her.

My current dogs were both spayed/neutered as soon as I got them from the shelter, Nanook was about 8 months, Raustyk was 6 months.

I like to wait as long as possible, that is for growth & hormone & overall health. Now what I prefer is to spay a female right before her first heat. As it is healthier for them before their first heat, it would be nice to wait a little longer, as they are ussually in heat about 6 months of age but better before than after.

Males I like to wait until they are 8-12 months, depending on the breed & behavioral issues though.

6 months is the youngest I like to see.

The shelters & vets have the thought of spaying/neutering at a younger age due to overpopulation reasons correct, but as far as their overall health goes I would like to see them wait until 6 months. Unfortunatly you owners can lie & say they won't breed but you don't know that for sue, so I gues I am undecided on that issue than.

Brock was intact when he was found as a stray at about 10/11 months. They neutered him right away. It was just 2 days before chirstmas! lol
