OK, It might seem silly, but today it hit me every Orange and white cat, I ever had has been a male. I've had a solid orange female before but never one with white in them.

So it got me wondering, how many of you have Orange and white females compaired to who has males.

Just wondering how the average's will work out.

We have an orange & white male. I have seen a couple of orange females, but it's quite rare, apparently.

I just voted female for Scout but you might not want to count that. She only has a little white locket on her chest and a little white spot on her belly.

I do know that bisi.cat's Nellie is an orange and white female. I miss her, we need to get bisi.cat back here and posting.

See thats what I was wondering about. Out of all the cats I've had and cared for, they all have been male and I didn't know if it was just my luck or if that's the norm.

I have always heard that solid orangies were mostly male ... not sure about orange with white ... the two who I am currently fostering (Marmy and the new pg mom, Daisy) are both white and orange!;)

When I was growing up I had an orange and white female cat. I never knew that they were rare until I heard this on Pet Talk.:)
Luckily when I was looking for an orangie I wanted a male.:)

Here's a picture of Puff.

She had 2 litters of kittens and they were all orangies. The father looked like Morris.:) Puff's mother was an orangie and her grandmother was a calico cat.

Freckles and Blossom (fosters) are orange and white females. Topaz (foster) is an orange and white female. I have an orange female with a white locket (Pixel) and had an orange polydactyl feral (Dax.) Orange females seem to be more commonplace here; I've seen a lot of them around.

We had a similar poll once before - and it seemed to indicate that there were not only more orange males but also that they seemed to have the sweetest dispositions. My very favorite kitties have ALWAYS been orange males:D (of course I am impartial;) )

I voted male because of Leroy. I don't know if I have ever seen an orange or white female. How interesting.

I consider her Orange and white. I consider Darell, Orange and white and he's about the same color.

Genetically, 80% of orangies are males.

I have and orange and white female, and orange and white male, an orange female and I had an orange male....so for me...50/50.

Hi, I have a long haired male orange tabby (Oliver), an orange and white male (Sebastian), and a brother and sister who are manx kitties-orange tabby (Bailey) and his orange and white sister Willow. Also, I now have another orange tabby male kitten (Colby Cheese) and a pretty pale orange (almost buff colored) male kitten (searching for a name) any suggestions? I have always heard that male orangies are very sweet and have found this to be very true!!! I've also heard that female orangies are a little more tempermental (and this holds true with my Willow, but we love her all the same).

I was going to say that, but I wasn't quite sure on the percentage. I knew it was pretty high though. :)

I voted Male....I've only had Orion and he's an orangie with white boy! :)

I guess the Barli-man is an orangie. Sort of a pale one. Barbara came up with the perfect word for his shade—apricot! :D Anyway, I assume he qualifies. And, despite his prettiness and prissiness, he’s a boy!

I didn't vote because I consider Mishi an orangie and not an orange and white, even though he has a white muzzle, or does that count? Mishi is turning into a mama's boy, so sweet and snuggly. I love my orange fluff-muffin! :)

Female orangies are like male calicos... rare! Male calicos are more rare, but I know something like 80+% of orangies are male, as are buffs (which can still be considered an orangie). Also, most female orangies, like male calicos, are sterile. :)

Hmmm I've never heard that most female orangies are sterile. My female orangie cat,Puff, had two litters and her mother was also an orangie and had several litters.

As far as I know, most orange cats are male - Fister certainly is/was. ;)

This is the only picture we have of him, his sister and mom. You can't say that his sister is exatcly orange/white, but still ....

There is a great explanation of this here (http://www.roen.com/990510.html)

Most of the orangies I have come across in my shelter work are male...like my outside cat Ginger-Boy

Female orangies sterile? No one told Topaz or Dax or any number of orange females who have had kittens all over Westchester County.:p ;)

My Scout is an orange female and was pregnant when she was brought into the shelter so I don't think most female orangies are sterile.

Her pregnancy was ended when she was spayed. That always makes me sad to think about but I know the shelter did what was best. I just wished she hadn't been pregnant to begin with.

Actioncat - Simba is gorgeous. Please share more pictures and tell us more about him.
