My husband and I drove 103 miles each way this past weekend to go to the beach. It took us 4 hours to get down there and 5 hours to get back. That tells you something about traffic in Japan, doesn't it:rolleyes: :D We left at 2:30am!! traffic never stops over here....
Anywho, it was raining when we left and our hopes that it would clear up never came true. It was nasty and rainy the whole time:( We found out later that we had narrowly missed the latest typhoon (pacific hurricane). I guess we have bad timing:rolleyes:
Here is a terribly frumpy looking me at 2am.

Here is a crosswalk sign. I thought it was funny because it is obviously a man on the sign... does this mean that woman aren't allowed to cross the street?

Shirahama beach is a favorite of surfers and of course the typhoon made for some nice waves, so we got a chance to watch some really good surfers. Despite the nasty weather we still went and stood in the ocean for a while, letting the waves come up to about waist high. There was some MAJOR undertow, even in just about a foot of water. I'm sooooo glad my husband doesn't surf, I'd be worried sick!

One thing about ocean water- it stinks!! When we left we piled our wet clothes on the floor in the car and a few hours later our whole car smelled soooooooo bad.

Because the weather had been so nasty we decided once we got home to get a room at DoD run hotel about an hour away. It was fun and almost made up for out 206 mile journey to meet up with a typhoon:rolleyes:

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Sorry your weather didn't cooperate but at least you did miss the typhoon. I can't imagine that would be too fun.

Poor little Starfish!!:(
