I just took the pups out for their afternoon outing and saw something flutter by me. After calling the curious pups off, I saw it was a baby dove. It sat very still and stayed there long enough I could get the camera and get a couple pictures. I gave it a slight nudge to make sure it wasn't injured and it took off and flew a bit, clumsily and close to the ground. I think it just left the next and is learning to fly. I left it alone although with the nudge it went to a more grown in area and I think was better hidden from any would-be predators. Hopefully the little guy will be ok but I thought it was best to let things take their natural course. I did not try to pick him up or even touch him with my fingers (I nudged him with a tiny twig).

This is where I left him.

I love doves. He looks old enough to be out of the nest and learning to fly. His momma and daddy should still be around to feed him for a while after he is out of the nest.
I have raised many doves, one of which I still have. In fact it was my first dove I raised, his name is Flutters. I've had him for 3 years. He stays at my work. Altho he has a cage it stays open and he has free roam, except for at night.
He follows me everywhere. He sits on my head a lot . I love him so much.

I went out a bit later and saw at least a couple pair of adult mourning doves hanging around on the ground. Then I saw another baby/young dove in the garden, looked a few days older than the first as his tail feathers were just a bit longer. But he was poking around in the garden and seemed content. I imagine the brood recently left the nest and like you say the parents are still caring for them. I hope they all make it ok :)

You're my hero, Jess:) You and birds definitely seem to have an affinity for each another:):): How precious!!! Great job, friend! Fingers crossed that the little ones take flight safely soon! And weren't the pups well mannered! So sweet:)
