I just read this on ABC.com. It appears that the Bush's cat, Ernie has taken off for places unknown. The article is here http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/bush_cat010404.html
I can't really blame him since his family didn't take him with them.

That's so sad! I hope they find Ernie soon, or that he returns on his own, SAFE and SOUND. Poor guy.

Poor guy had to live with George W. I don't blame him. Hope he's OK.

Spencer, I love that poem. It is strange that they don't seem to be doing more to find him, isn't it? http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif
One ray of light in this whole situation is that Ernie's new owner didn't consider declawing him, even though he has proven very destructive. Maybe Ernie is better off in LA. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Spencer...What a riot! Love the Ross Purr-O part too. Somehow I will never think of him the same way again when I see his name in print. Pie charts have taken on a new meaning with me too. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

Ok. I'm really worried about Ernie now, and I am a George Bush fan...sorry, Ben. Any update?

Perhaps Ernie's taken off to start a new movement to get the USA back into the Kyoto treaty!

Well, I hesitate to be real hard on the Freemans. When a cat wants out, he often finds a way out. And Ernie was definitely an outside cat before, being a rehabilitated homeless cat in the past. So I can't help but think the Freemans were as responsible as a cat family can be, as evidenced by the fact that they refused to have him declawed. I lost a beloved orange and white cat too, when he escaped one day and was never seen again. It is heartbreaking and frustrating, because you never know if they were killed or taken in by a well-meaning person thinking they were strayed, and then either not able to get back out or maybe even relocated when the new family moved. Who ever knows what becomes of these poor kitties when they escape.

Logan...I thought of you originally when I read the article about Ernie. Particularly the part where it says "Ernie began to claw things, including Mr. Bush at times." http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif I guess Ernie and Butter just can't forget their earlier days of being on their own and fending for themselves, although Butter seems to have adapted quite well to the "pampered life."

I was wondering, since Ernie has the plastic caps on his claws, will he be able to defend himself outside and still be able to climb?

By the way, Trevor and Andy also voted for President Bush (with the help of their human). Trevor was looking forward to reading of Ernie's exploits. He feels a kinship with him since they share that orange gene. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif He took it very hard when he learned that Ernie would not be living in the White House. Now he is wringing his paws hoping that Ernie will be found.

There's been another update about Ernie (see the link below). Apparently he's been missing for a few weeks, but his owner in LA has been checking the shelters everyday and has posted flyers. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif At least he cares about Ernie. http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20010406_667.html

OJ, is a whole other guilty story. Almost wish he'd never been born, along with the metric system.

I guess I have to say what surprises me the most about this whole situation is that no one in the White House really seems to be all that concerned that Ernie is missing. True, there may not be much "Shrub" can do on the other side of the country, but he's the President. He can order someone, the FBI, CIA (okay, maybe I'm getting a little carried away, but my point still stands).
If he were at all worried, you know the media would have mentioned it by now. I hope they don't share the mentality that cats/pets are "disposable".

O.J. Simpson, Waco and the metric system!!This is TOO funny! Pet Talk and politics. Who'd a thunk it!?? Now we reveal our TRUE selves! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif I think I'd better refrain from revealing my political affilitations! Ben...I'm more along your line of thinking. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gifAfter all. My "Star," the infamous yellow lab made me do it. You know, Buddy and all! I KNOW there's a Saturday Night Live skit in here somewhere!

Local (Portland, OR) TV had a short bit about Ernie this evening. So sounds like they are really looking for him.

I wonder if he was wearing a tag. I was watching Miracle Pets tonight and a cat from Colorado accidentally got into a moving truck headed for Canada. Fortunately for the cat's owner (and the kitty http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif ) the cat was wearing a collar with a tag. The people in Canada called the number and they were reunited. He had been gone about 2 months! Anyway, here's hoping if Ernie does have a tag that someone will call instead of keeping him for themselves.

I didn't vote for Bush but I'm concerned about Ernie just the same. Cats don't care about your political affiliation--personally I think there's a lot of Republican about them, as they are known for their self-reliance and independence, but it takes someone with a Democratic sense of tolerance to see beyond their aloofness and find the affectionate creature underneath that standoffish disposition. (I know there are many who might disagree with my analysis; feel free to write your reactions!)

I heard some have speculated that Ernie may be hanging out in Malibu--hope that story's true, and that some Baywatch lifeguard with keen eyes would take Ernie home safe and sound! That is, if the lifeguard doesn't decide to keep Ernie first!

Remind me...why was it the Weeds...er, Bushes, couldn't be bothered to take their pet to Washington with them? Tells you how you can trust the guy when he says "No CHILD" will be left behind.

Thank you so much for the update. I hadn't heard yet that Ernie had been found. I'm really glad he has been found http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif Too many other cats aren't as lucky. Thank you again.

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't Ernie look a little like Butter? I can't remember where Butter's picture is posted. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/confused.gif

ALL RIGHT ERNIE!! What a survivor, on the streets of L.A. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/cool.gif I'm so glad he was found. Many thanks to that security guard who spotted Ernie and remembered seeing his story on t.v. Hooray! Now don't run away again, Ernie! Everyone missed you so! He really is a cuddly-looking, handsome cat.

I'm elated to hear that Ernie's back, safe and sound with the Freemans...so much for my fantasy that a hunky Baywatch lifeguard would find him gallivanting in the beaches of Malibu!

BTW, Spencer, would you happen to have the words to "Felis catus", Data's poem dedicated to Spot? I've heard of it before but never saw the full text. Thanks in advance.

How right you are, Spencer. Butter will not ever have to be held by the neck, because I would die trying!!! It was kind of fun to see his pictures again. I must get some new ones to post of him. Ernie definitely has longer hair than Butter. But isn't it great that he is back home?

Butter Boy is king of his castle, and is the token male around here! And....no scratches recently. I'm learning!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif
