My 7 month old black and dark brown cat, Zezu, loves glasses of water. Any glass that is left unattended, he's right on it. And boom, down it goes. He also loves to spill his water dish and push the dish across the floor. These things are a bit annoying, but how could you be mad at a little guy like that. I'll be sending in his picture soon.

Another one of Zezu's games is to stare at the 2 birds I own. I have 2 finches in a cage hanging from the ceiling. Zezu loves to go hide under the rug that lies underneith the bird cage. He waits, and hopes for them to fly out. He'll hide under there while they are cleaning themselves in the water dish and spraying water on him. He always ends up falling asleep under the rug. It's adorable. I posted a bird story in the 'cat of the day msg. boards' if you're interested.

Hi Ben,
Really, what is it with cats and glasses? http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif My tuxedo cat is totally obsessed with glasses. He likes licking the outside of the glass. Maybe he likes the condensation?? Anyway, if I'm sitting with a glass, he'll be climbing all over me to get a lick. So funny! I guess a glass is a good as a cat treat for him! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

Charlie is always trying to get a sip of my wine. I don't let him, of course, but I think it's very funny...like mother, like son!

I think I have posted this before so if I have please forgive me. My cat, Andy, loves water. He dips his paws in his water bowl and then licks them dry. My other cat, Trevor, I am sure find it very distressing to have his drinking water turned into bath water. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif Now I have a standard poodle puppy who is also into washing her feet in the water bowl. Poor Trevor! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

Pam, you crack me up! Andy sounds like a hoot. Another wierd thing is my Marius likes to dip his paws in his water bowl too! Hmmm...maybe they ARE long lost cousins! LOL http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif I don't know what it is with him and him sticking his paws in things. He does that with his food too sometimes. Scooter likes licking glasses and the condensation off of them, but doesn't take an interest in the "paw dipping". Marius also likes the water in the bathtub. Go figure. He doesn't like baths, but he sure likes it when I'm in the shower. When I get out, he gets in and proceeds to lick the tub! Yuk!! I usually take him out cuz soap residue can't be good for them! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/rolleyes.gif

Karen they sure do have a lot in common. Can't wait til you can post pictures of Scooter and Marius! The sound of water running in the sink gets his attention and he used to like to watch me pour water down the toilet when I had scrubbed the floor. One day he ran into the bathroom because he heard the splashing start. He had too much momentum going and wound up on the rim and then fell right in. Fortunately he was too big to go down the drain. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif He has never shown any interest in the toilet since then! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

Our male cat loves water also. He always wants to drink water from the bathtub faucet, and if the bathroom door is closed, he will stand up and bat the doorknob with his paw when we walk past, or he will chin himself on the knob. He and our girl kitty will line up in the tub in the morning to take turns for their drink. He also likes glasses of water, or even better yet, milk. We call him the milk vulture, because if we have a glass of milk in the living room, he will watch every move, and then will try to steal a sip. When the glass is empty, he will soak up the last last drops with his paw, and then lick it off. It looks so funny to see him sponging up the milk in the bottom of the glass with his paw, but my husband doesn't like it when he does that! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

How much milk is good to give a cat at one time?

No water, wine, etc. glass is safe from cat lips in this house! My daughter likes a glass of water by her bed every night, and we have to put a Kleenex over it to keep Mimi and Butter from taking a drink!!! They would rather drink water from anywhere before they drink from their own water bowls.
I think it is part of the "arrogance" thing about a cat.

Years ago I fostered a litter and we named one of the brothers Splash. Once the kittens had found the community water bowl, he'd camp out and wait for another cat to come up wanting water, then he'd splash them.

Needless to say, the others didn't miss him when he got adopted.

Nah... he was a charcoal gray shorthair. Sweetest disposition of the litter, never mean to any of the other cats - well, except for liking to splash.

Actually, Princess Crystal's first vet swore she was a Van - odd-eyed white. Someday I'll scan her professional portraits (it's been over 7 years, think there'd be a copyright problem? I'm not gonna charge y'all to see them...).

What would worry me about cats liking to play in glasses of water is the glass getting knocked over and breaking, and the risk to the cat of getting cut. Especially with wine glasses.

Of course, glass isn't safe around me anyway, so we use a lot of plastic.

The Turkish Van looks like Andy with some of Spencer's genes thrown in! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif What a terrific fluffy tail. Trevor is just a little envious. His looks more like a snake. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

I've posted this story before, but could not locate it on an archive search, so I'll retell it-

We had a calico named Yankee who loved knocking over water glasses, too. One morning when my son was getting ready for school she was in the bathroom with him, but she kept trying to knock over his toothbrushing rinse water, so he impatiently put her on the toilet to get her out of his way. He laughed when he noticed she then proceeded to attempt to knock over the toilet!
