View Full Version : Has anyone got the new Lord of the Rings-dvd already?

In Germany, the release date for "The Return of the King" was today; I had my copy in the mail this morning and of course I immediately had to watch and bawled my eyes out in the end - as already happened when I saw the movie in the cinema in December. :o

Still haven't seen the dvd with the extras yet, but I plan to do it later today.

Has anyone else ordered a copy?

I'm going for holidays so I won't have time to see it before. But I will have the 3 DVDs (haven't any up to now, only the video of the first part) and will see them all together:D :D :D

I'm excersizing massive amounts of self-control and NOT buying the DVD today, because I'm hoping my hubby gets it for my birthday Monday. If he doesn't, I'll be at the nearest store in a flash. Because I just cannot wait any longer to see the charge of the Rohirrim again (THAT part makes me cry...is that weird? :D )

Also...I heard today that they probably won't release the Extended Edition until January. January!!!! Is that cruel or what?!

Kirsten
05-25-2004, 04:47 PM
YLL, I was the same. As soon as I got it today, it's been in the dvd player! :)

Wow, Barbara, that's more than 9 hours in a row! LOL  I'm not sure if I will ever do that!

Twink, I know what you mean about the Rohirrim! It's overwhelming!

I'll hope you'll get the dvd for yor birthday!
And yes, January is more than cruel (I was hoping they would release it before Christmas), but that way there's at least still something to look forward to. Because what the SEE is released, it's really the end...

Hubby got off work yesterday and went screaming to the store first thing to buy it:rolleyes: I saw the first one because he dragged me to the theater and I managed to sit through it - I liked it - sort of. I mean the scenery is nice and the hairy toed hobbit creatures were OK. I just do not get the excitement though. Well, he disappeared into the TV room last night while I read on PT of course:D
Afterwards he came back here all emotional and about to cry and I am like "whaaa???...you are crying over hairy toed Dildo and Frobo Baggins?" He rolls his eyes as if I am an alien and will NEVER understand.
What is it that I am missing?????

(he never likes MY movies either:o )

LOL, I don't know...

I cannot tell, but there's something in these movies that touches me deep down inside. Maybe it's the power of friendship and the belief that they're something good that's worth fighting for. Great characters and a beautiful scenery. Also, the loyalty and friendship between cast and crew during the two-years-filming in New Zealand, which also reflects in their play. Just a great atmosphere and wonderfully to watch - and it's so sad in the end to say good bye...

It's one of the books you can live in:)

If I could wish to change the world I would wish for some unicorns, elves and dragons to be here.:D

Which qualifies me as irreparable romantic:rolleyes:

P.S. There are some dragons but they don't look half as interesting as they should;)

ROFLOL!!!!!!
I actually got into these movies more than my husband which is unual because I was probably the only kid in the late 70s who thought that Star Wars was stupid when it first came out and I never got into the series. There is just something about these mystical stories that really hit home with me. A very good escape from reality.

Well, darn, THREE of my favorite PT people in a row LOVE these movies so I must be missing something and it bugs me now! I watched the actors at the Oscars and saw all the obvious camaraderie that existed among the cast as well as the crew - not to mention all the gold they hauled off:eek: ...and it WAS rather impressive. My oldest son is totally entralled by these movies which I find odd because he is a total geek. An engineer at a research institute!. For fun, he powerlifts, wrestles and plays rugby. I wouldn't think he any sense of *magical* in him. Missy (sirrahsim) and her hubby watch them and everyone loves the books as well. We have had the books around the house always as far as I can remember because hubby would read and re-read them, then my oldest son, then Missy. I *started* to read_The Hobbit_. (yeah hubby made me!)
Well, darn it. Now we have all three DVD's and I am going to make myself sit through all three of them:o I am bound and determined to see what I am missing. Stubborn I guess but shheeesh - one of my degrees is in LITERATURE. I should be able to see value in ALL literature and creative work.
Besides, Kirsten -I need to feel touched inside - that sounds like me. I want to believe there is good worth fighting for. Barbara, I LOVE books I can live in, I read tons of books and LOVE to disappear into the scenes, plots and people. And Lori, God knows we all need an escape from reality!!:D ;) :o

Hubby just got home from school and I showed him what I did and he is about splitting a gut. Suddenly he thinks PT is fun!!!

OMG!!! ROFLMAO!!! Dildo, snicker, snicker, snicker - forgive my immaturity...I needed that cause I was in a bad mood at work (received some bad news)....Anyways I partly laughed so hard cause I'm with you - I'm not THAT into the movies either. they are ok and I'll watch them and I can even undertand why others are into them. My main complaint is they are SOOOOOOOOOOO long and I lose interest after about an hour and a half of film.. I haven't seen the third one yet, but my Dear boyfriend did by the dvd yesterday and since he's working all weekend I will probably sit down and watch it. I hear the ending scene with the hobbits is very sad (in a good way) and I'm such a sucker for sad/happy I'll probably love it.

I bought it today to surprise my son. He was happy that I thought of him, but informed me that he really would rather wait for the extended version. I hate it when they do all that stuff!! I guess I'm going to return it and wait. I've been waiting so long to see it! I guess I can wait it out. Bran says his other ones are the extended ones and that is what I have watched so I might as well wait for the 3rd one.

I thought you were making fun of the names too there! I thought it was intentional!

Well...it alllllll started a year ago January. Katherine took me to see The Two Towers. Now, I had never ever read any of the books or seen any of the movies and all of a sudden TTT comes on the screen. All I remembered was that Legolas was an AWESOME character and the battle of Helm's Deep (my favorite part on TTT)

So then I go home and read The Hobbit. Thats in February. Then in September (last September) I read FOTR and in October I read TTT and in November/December I read ROTK.

Of course I watched the movies after I read each book and every time I go to Katherines we watch either TTT of FOTR (tradition).

So now I am totally obssessed with it. I don't know why, but the soundtracks are so sad for me. I especially love the song Evenstar. The music is just so wonderful, the movies, so wonderful, the books and storyline, just everything, I cannot explain.

I have NOT gotten my copy of ANY of the DVD's yet. (of course I've seen them all)

Major supplies needs to come first. However I am adding ROTK dvd to my list of things to buy that include: all three LOTR dvd's, 2 LOTR soundtracks (I got one for my birthday)and 3 LOTR books along with Harry Potter stuff and just a general list of things I need to buy. Hopefully I can get a job or something this summer so I can actually buy the things I want! But still...need to get Major that Gentle Leader!!

I was probably just blabbing on up there but I just need to clear my thoughts and I feel I need to explain things to people...don't know why. Believe me, that was a really SHORT explanation, coming from me:rolleyes: :D

You guys are brats!! I wish I WAS so clever! I thought I had the names RIGHT! I know that word, too:o I looked at it several times and wonder why you are laughing at me:rolleyes: By that time, I can't even edit my post because it is quoted! Now, I give up because Missy is probably going to see it anyway:rolleyes: Just another thing my family will remind me of for years I guess. My hubby about split a gut last after noon when I showed him and knowing my love for all things slightly toilet related:o he thought is was especially hysterical.

hmmm...let's try another approach YES, I was making fun of the silly names and did it on purpose!! :D hahaha - fooled you!:p

Debbie - I knew you thought that was the right name -that is why I laughed so hard. I didn't have the heart to correct you either - LOL!! The worse part is one weekend we were getting Cinemax for free from DishNetwork and hubby and I decided to watch some movies - GOOD GRIEF! It was all porn and the one we turned to was a knock off of LOTRs and the girls name was Dildo Saggins. I was in tears laughing. Of course we turned the channel right away - I was also blushing. Anyway, your faux pas brought back the memory of the movie and I about went into hysterics. Of course I didn't think you had been watching Cinemax late at night.:D

Debbie, I knew you wouldn't have assumed Mr. Tolkien using such a name for one of his characters! ;)

FizzGiggs_Mommy, I agree, Orlando Bloom and especially Viggo Mortensen ARE hot! :D

MariaM, I guess I'm obsessed as well! I've got the three theatrical versions on dvd, I've got the FotR and TTT SEE, I've got all the cds with the music (it's so beautiful and sad at the same time), I have the three theatrical posters on my wall and two maps of Middle Earth, and I'm collecting these new LotR tin figurines, even though I cannot affort them! :o

Well, I am not collecting anything yet - though the figures DO look very detailed and impressive:D
BUT - I want you to know that my hubby found a LOTR (http://www.lord-of-the-rings.org/books/lotr_characters.html) website where I have been studying the names of the main characters (including Frodo and Bilbo Baggins ) and we are watching #1 TONIGHT!!! Popcorn, pizza and everything!! We plan to see the whole trilogy this Memorial day weekend!! Aren't you proud of me now??:)

PS who is the character played by Gwyneth Paltrow - I could not find her...?
Also, I KNOW Gimli!!! He is part of Darin's clan and he makes friends with the elves!!

Kirsten
05-28-2004, 02:07 PM
Thanks for the link! :) I haven't seen that page so far, but it looks very good and informative. :)

Ahhh, have a lot of fun this weekend with the three movies! :) I guess after that you will recall Frodo's and Bilbo's name for the rest of your life and you will never mess them up again! LOL :D

BTW, Gwyneth Paltrow is not in the movies. Liv Tyler is, she's Arwen. And Cate Blanchett is Galadriel.

And yes, Gimli became a good friend of Legolas, the Elf - who is played by Orlando Bloom who is really hot, but not as hot as Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn, Strider), you'll see... :)

Whew! Just finished #1 and saw all that I slept through the first time at the theater:) I was VERY captivated this time. It helped that I knew the background having studied the website and having a thorough tutoring from hubby last night on the background of Hobbits. Kirsten - the elf that I thought was Gwyneth Paltrow was Cate Blanchett as you thought. Sure looked like her! I did NOT think Legolas was very "hot" - not my taste at all - but I can look at Aragorn anytime:D (VERY nice:o )
Just taking a quick break and about to start #2 - can't wait!!

I warned my hubby - I NEVER do ANYTHING halfway - soon I will be decorating with Middle Earth posters and attempting to speak Elvish! Gotta go!

Oh he does not look his best in that movie. I never thought he was good looking as I'm not into blond haired guys...but He normally has dark curly hair and looks a lot, lot better! Did you see Pirates with Johnny Depp - he was in that? He may still not be your type :), lol, but thought I'd let you know :)

And something else that's funny is the actor that plays Aragon is gorgeous, but he he looks much better all scruffed up and dirty - not so great clean shaven!

Yeah, I don't like aragorn, but I think the character looks WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than In real life. However, with Orlando, I love him no matter what kind of hair he has! It's cool with a mohawk too! Anything!!!!! :D

While Orlando Bloom is great eye candy (and yes, in "Pirates" and "Troy" he's looking even better!!!), Viggo Mortensen is absolutely fascinating! It's true that he's looking best as Aragorn, dirty and unshaven... but in real life he's so much more than just an actor - he's an artist: a photographer, painter and poet, he's published several books already, and he's running his own press (http://percevalpress.com/). He's shy and doesn't like being in public, but if he has to go public, he's often speaking about political issues. He has a fascinating way to look at things, and that makes him special... :)
