Last night it happened that I saw the song performed on tv that has always reminded me of Luna. It's been in the charts here in Germany in the summer of 2000 when I got the little innocent Luna baby and when she brought the first beams of light back into my life when all was dark and grey from mourning over Katz.

It's a song by the German band Orange Blue and when I first heard the refrain, I immediately had to think of Luna who was the sweetest little baby kitten at that time:

"She's got that light around her eyes
A gleaming star surrounds her mind
Shes got that smile imbued with soul
I need her hand, [well, "paw" would be better here]
cause shes my home"

For Katz, I even have an entire cd with special "Katz Songs", and each and everyone of them was very important and helpful for me during the weeks following her passing. The one with the most beautiful lyrics is by another German band called Bell Book & Candle. It's sad but a great comfort as well:

See Ya

come into my heart
can you feel my desperation deep inside
come into my soul
can you see me - here I'm far away from you

see ya - be sensible and let me go
see ya - you'll stay my soulmate although
you should say good bye
for now say good bye

you know these rainy days of our lives
we can make it if we try
you know I will be right by your side
one day we will meet in another life

come into my heart
I'm searchin' you so desperately forever more
come into my soul
so must I put up with this cruel infinity

see ya - be sensible and let me go
see ya - you'll stay my soulmate although
you should say good bye
for now say good bye.

you know these rainy days of our lives
we can make it if we try
you know I will be right by your side
one day we will meet in another life

Now I'm curious if anyone else has some special poems or songs in memory of our feline friends. :)

I love this topic. Your songs that are for your cats are beautiful, and the one for RB Katz really made me choke up with some tears. It was lovely, Kirsten.

............

The topic of songs and cats happens to be a loaded question at my house. One of my favorite, silliest and probably most annoying things I do (at least in other people's eyes) is to take almost any song and turn it around and change the lyrics for my cats. I do it constantly!!!

For example, that song Toxic by Brittany Spears, I've taken the lyrics and have changed them to "I'm addicted to you, don't you know you're so handsome", lol, lol, lol........

And then there's a song here, kind of a techno song...it goes.....

"uh oh, uh oh....., if you want me to stay, I'll never leave. If you want me to stay, we'll always be. If you want me to stay, I'll never leave you. uh, uh, uh oh....Well since there's such a thing as an "Uh Oh Oreo" cookie, I have decided this song is really meant to be about my baby Oreo and whenever I hear it I think of Oreo and I also sing it to him quite often...

For Wilber, I always change the lyrics to silly songs like 50 Cent, "In tha club". WIlber's version goes:

"You can find me in the apartment. I'm into being handsome, I'm not into being ugly." as opposed to the real lyrics, which are: "You can find me in tha club, I'm into"...... well other things I won't say whay he really says in the song s:)

Also there's another song by 50 cent: "I don't know what you heard about me, I'm a p-i-m-p. For Wilber I'll sing, "I don't know what you heard about me, I'm a c-u--t-i-e".

When the ktties are in a naughty mood, my favorite song to sing to them is "Devil in disguise", lol.

I could go on and on with popular songs and all the ways I've fitted the lyrics to be about my cats.

Stray Cat Strut by the Stray Cats , Cool for Cats , by Squeeze, and Love Cats , by a Group , that I cant quite remember! And i love Opposies Attract where Paula Abdul , dances , with a Cat , and Cool thing , where a Balck cat is prominant. There there is Black cat , by Janet Jackson, and The Late Stevie Ray Vaughns cover of Stevie Wonders Superstiton , where a Black cat , wreaks Havoc!

Great song Gary! It's by The Cure!

I dance around the room and sing this to my Ally-baby:

Cos I'm keeping you forever and for always
We will be together all of out days
Wanna wake up every morning to your sweet face
Always!

Kirsten, your special Katz song has made me cry!

There is a song by Sarah McLachlan....In the Arms of an Angel that everytime I hear the song the chorus reminds me of my Rainbow Bridge baby Tony. It was such a shock to me when he died so suddenly and about 2 weeks later this song came out and I just think of him being over the RB and laying in the arms of an angel waiting for me to come see him.

I too can take almost any song and give it kitty lyrics. Here are two I've posted before. :)

To the tune of It’s Almost Like Being In Love from Brigadoon

What a day this has been
What a rare mood I’m in
Why it’s almost like being a cat

There’s a smile on my face
For the who feline race
Why it’s almost like being a cat

All the sounds of the world seem to be
Like a kitten that’s purring for me

And from the way that I feel
When that meow starts to peal
It’s almost like being
It’s almost like being
It’s almost like being a cat

To the tune of Wouldn’t It Be Loverly from My Fair Lady

All I want is a cat somewhere
Close to me in the warm night air
In one enormous chair
Oh wouldn’t he be lovable

Lots of chicken for him to eat
Lots of fur making lots of heat
Pink nose, pink ears, pink fee
Oh wouldn’t he be lovable

Oh so lovable, lovable lovable lovable lovable
I would never budge when he
Crept off of my window sill

One purring cat curled up on my knee
Warm and tender as he can be
Taken good care of by me
Oh wouldn’t he be LOVABLE

I totally forgot....I sing On Top of Old Smokey to Smokey all the time except these are the lyrics.

On top of old Smokey
All covered with cheese
Smokey lost Daddy's meatball when Flubby sneezed.

It rolled off the table
and onto the floor
We lost Daddy's meatball
as it rolled out the door.

Smokey will just sit there and look at me like I lost my mind.....maybe I have?????  :p :p

I always sing that one song to Chuck that is from the 50's called Sherrie. Except I sing it, "Chuu-uh-uh-uh-kie Bay-ay-bie!"

He likes it as long as I don't dance around with him in my arms. My 13 y/o daughter thinks I'm nuts. She hates it when I do this.

I've heard that animals respond well to a high-pitched voice, like they can hear it better. Maybe that's why this song works! LOL

I know, I'm a retard. :D

Ahhh, all this is sooo sweet! :)
And it only shows how much our fur kids are loved! :)

Julie, I remember you've posted before that you're singing that Shania Twain-song to Ally. That is so cute! :)

Lmao, lmao!! Sometimes I dance at my cats, in front of them when I sing to them. I know they must think I'm looney!

LOL! I used to dance around with Goldie in my arms. Now my Mishi is just too darned big and Mitzi hates being picked up. I do sing to them all the time and they look at me as if I'm nuts .... which I freely admit I am! :D

Mishi's "song" - actually I just chant it at him (Mishigaas is his proper/full name):

Mishigaas, Squishigass
Caticas, cutiecas,
Muffigus, Fluffigus
I love you
Enuff-i-guss!

Mitzi's song is to the tune of Don Ho's "Tiny Bubbles"

Mitzi Noodle!
Fluffy my Babboo!
Mitzi Noodle
Boy do I love you!

Mitzi Noodle
You are so C U T E!
and I love my Mitzi Noodle
Ooh-Dee-Ooh!
Oh Yes I Do!

(The Mishi Noodle song is the same) :D

There is this song, that has these words in it...

"promises mean everything, when you are so little and the world is so big..." maybe.." and how you smile with those tears in your eyes.."

And, everytime I hear this section, it makes me think of Dakky. I don't know why, but, it has for several years.

Cat scratch fever-Ted Nugent

"Daddy's little baby love shortening bread"

And Walk this Way-Aerosmith.

Seesaw swingin' with the boys in the school
And your feet flyin' up in the air
Singin' hey diddle diddle
With your kitty in the middle of the swing like you didn't care
So I took a big chance at the high school dance
With a missy who was ready to play

I was in a production of Funny Girl last month. Wrote this for Don Juan to the tune of "Sadie, Sadie, Married Lady":

I'm a pretty, pretty, family kitty--
Smile when you call my name!
Ancient Egypt worshipped me, now you can do the same!
Mom goes out and earns my keep
And I can catch up on my sleep,
Feed me, pet me, play with me, give me treats--
She doesn't mind 'cause I 'm so sweet!
I watch the birds, work on purrs, while she slaves away.
Then she comes home and I say "Yo! Whaddya bring for me today?"
I guess you'd say I have it all
(But once in a while I miss my balls),
Pretty, pretty, family kitty, that's me! ... ow

Actually, I change the words to "kitty that was ready to play..."

But seriously, when it involves pets, anything is possible..;)

For my HUGE RB cat Sunny (who loved being held by me constantly) the obvious song was "Sunshine on my shoulder - makes me happy". For my two current cats (out of our house of five) I usually just make up kat googy words to whatever is on the radio at the time

I changed it to "Fluffer-noogies" and would sing it to Goldie. A friend at the time loved the idea of "fluffer-noogies" and decided that that's what cat-fur dust-bunnies should be called. So now when I see some cat hair bunnies on my carpets, I call them fluffer-noogies or fluffer-noogins .... yes, I know, I'm strange
