I just finished watching "Meet The Parents." Real cute movie! Anyway, there is a cat in the movie who uses the "people potty." I have read about this in magazines but have never known anyone who has a cat that can do this. How about it....anyone out there with a cat who uses the potty?

I've seen that too, and it just cracks me up! I'll never forget when I first saw it in a magazine. There were instructions on how to train your cat to use the toilet, and my mom and me were just laughing so hard at the idea!! It all sounded feasible though, but I personally don't know anyone who has a cat that does this. Knowing my cats, they would just fall in.... http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

I've heard about that, never saw it though. I don't think I'd really want my cat to use the same facilities as me though.

I've tried it and had 4 of 6 cats toilet trained. We were very careful with the training pan and worked the system very carefully. Even though we never had a problem when we were home or awake, I hadn't quite gotten out of the habit of leaving the training pan out of the toilet. I was always afraid one of the cats (he was on the clumsy side) would accidentally fall in, so I would put the training pan in.

Then one night I was very sick with a horrific migraine and had forgotten to take the training pan out before I made an emergency run to the bathroom. After that, none of them would use it anymore. Even got another pan and tried... no luck. Guess I ruined their fun.

My only complaint with the whole system had to do with the fact that I had a padded toilet seat and they liked clawing it. Have you ever sat on a cat clawed, padded toilet seat?? "Odd" doesn't begin to describe it.

If two of the three cats we have now didn't weigh over 12 lbs., we'd give it another try. I'm hoping someone makes a plus-sized training set.

Having them toilet trained shouldn't mean taking away the litter box. Unless you're absolutely certain it won't be used, it never hurts to keep a spare just in case the bathroom doors get closed and the cat can't get to the toilet (helpful tip from friend who talked me into trying to potty train my cats).

I tried it once with Shrimp Boat, a cat from my past. But, she was so heavy, and she fell in. That as the end of the training! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif
The one I had was quite flimsy, made of plastic. There may be better varieties out there now...Shrimp Boat's experience was a LONG time ago.

Don't like those padded seats myself. They remind me of the Metric system.

I won't even try to train Zezu to do that. Mainly because if I leave the seat up, Zezu is always trying to drink the water. yuk!!

Ben, I'm intrigued. How does a padded toilet seat remind you of the metric system?

I have told this before in another post but my cat, Andy, did fall in the toilet once. He was hurrying to watch me dump water from my bucket (I had just scrubbed the floor and he loves to watch water flowing in any form). As he jumped onto the rim, in he went! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif He hasn't gone near it since then so he would be a poor candidate!

A cat using the toilet? I guess that's cute, but no big deal...show me a cat who FLUSHES afterwards and I'll be impressed. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

...or better yet, a cat who flushes AND understands the metric system. Even Ben would be impressed! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I wonder if the male kitties would insist on keeping the lid up! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/redface.gif
