This was from the Channel 11 News broadcast. One lucky dog that chow was!
TOLEDO -- They say every dog has its day. Mark down April 21st for a confused chow that wandered into the Maumee River and became stranded.
However, the U.S. Coast Guard came to the rescue. Deputy Dog Warden John Simon believes the female dog chased a goose into the river while the water was low. The dog ended up about 40 yards away from shore and became too scared to swim back. Members of the Maumee River Yacht club watched the dog pace back and forth all day long.
Club members called the dog warden and the dog warden called the coast guard. The chow squirmed away several times from guardsman Doug Gross who used a dog pole to help capture the chow. Gross said, "You never know what you're going to be doing everyday. It's just one of the details of the job."
The chow was brought to shore in good health. The dog warden is reviewing its lost and found list hoping to find the chow's owner.
