I just got back from the shelter again, and although I do a lot of trapping for them, and go in and play with the cats, I haven't really been doing it in an "official" capacity - just popping in when I can.

I was chatting to the Sanctuary Manager today, as I would like to offer something more "concrete" but I have a couple of problems:
1. My hubby sometimes works from home, and likes me to be around the house
2. My kids need a lot of taxi-ing around
3. My teaching schedule changes every week
All of which make it difficult for me to say "OK, I'm yours on X, Y and Z mornings / afternoons every week".

We put our heads together and here's what we came up with:

I am now the official "Story Teller" and Kitten Cuddler!

The "Story Teller" is as follows:
We have a file in the office with a page for each cat and dog available for adoption. It has a picture, and then underneath a bit of a story about the animal, written in his/her own words. SO I will pop in for an hour or two each week with my laptop and digital camera, and do Stories for all the new animals!

The Kitten Cuddler is the BEST part - they are short of people to help socialise the kittens, so I have to go there and play with them and get them used to being handled so they are more adoptable **sigh** - it's a hard job, but someones got to do it!!!

I help at our local animal shelter www.langleycares.com by updating their website for them. This allows me more flexibility and, to be honest, if I am around the shelter all of the time I find it hard not to keep bringing cats home! We could sure use a story teller for our bios. Currently one person does the pictures and bios and a TON of other stuff. Good for you for finding a way that works with your schedule. Kitten cuddling sounds wonderful... except for that habit I have of bringing cats home with me.

Hi Davena!
I LOVE shelter stories if you have some to share - you know - tidbits about cats who touch you in some way? There are others here who also volunteer in shelters and I feel like we can be a bit of family to these cats until they have their own. Also - I happen to be a a hopeless orange lover and would love to see more of your George if you have pics!!

Ally & Connor's Mom - can you tell us about some of your babies, too???
