I received this email from our local humane society and wanted to share it, to ask for prayers for the animals, not to solicit funds for the effort...

Funds Sought "For the Birds"

Funds are being sought to offset the medical costs of $6,000 to treat 30 exotic birds discovered by a Humane Society Cruelty Investigation Officer to be suffering from malnutrition, various diseases and injuries due to neglect. Dr. Orosz, one of only three Board Certified Avian Specialist in the tri-state area, has been treating the birds at Perrysburg Animal Care. The Toledo Area Humane Society receives no funding from tax dollars, the United Way, or national Humane Organizations, and depends entirely on private and corporate donations. The Humane Society is a private, nonprofit organization that has been protecting animals from abuse and neglect, and finding homes for thousands of animals annually in this community for 120 years.

Donations to cover Perrysburg Animal Care’s expense of caring for the birds can be sent to:

The Toledo Area Humane Society, "For The Birds" Fund, 1920 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee, Ohio 43537. Or Call 419-891-0594

These birds, when released from treatment at Perrysburg Animal Care, have already found homes. All 30 birds showed evidence of significant vitamin A deficiency, which had led to immune dysfunction and severe bacterial infection. Among the diseases and injuries, a Bluefronted Amazon was found to have an imbedded ankle collar, a Nanday Conure was found to have severe metabolic bone disease which had led to a fracture of the pelvic limb, and two Greenback Amazons had severe liver disease.
