We took Abigail to the vet today to start her heartworm treatment. :( So we spent this past weekend outside playing since it was her last chance to play for 6 weeks. They had a blast! :D

Hi Anna! :) She's heartworm positive and after they give her the injection, she must remain calm and still for a minimum of 6 weeks. After the very painful injection kills the worms in her heart, the worms must still be pumped out of the heart. If she gets excited or has any activity at all, the heart will pump faster, expelling more dead worms. That can cause a blocked artery and death. :( The first 2 weeks are the most critical time for this so we decided to board her. She HATES her crate and my terriers get her very excited so we thought it best to board her for the most important time.

When she comes home, it's into the guest room in her crate. 24/7 for 4 weeks. :eek: She only goes out on a leash to potty and right back in. She's going to hate me, but it's for her own good. We think she's less than a year, so this is a treatment that must be done. If and old dog, say Aneko's age, gets heartworm they don't treat it this way. An older dog would most likely die a natural death before the heartworms killed it.

That sure is a change from the snarling picture of her when you first got her home :D

She'll be in my prayers during her difficult treatment for heartworms :(. Be sure to keep us updated on that too.

Great pics!! Do you know what kind of breed she is? She looks like a type of Sennehund. (Dale is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Sennehund)...but there are 2 smaller Sennehunds, the Appenzeller and the Entlebucher, and they are smaller, and look similiar to her, but with more of a white blaze up between the eyes...just curious...if she was crossed with one of them, possibly?

She is so precious. I hope she makes it through all this all right. They sure did look like they were having LOTS of fun. Hopefully she won't be too miserable being crated for all that time.
And this should be printed and framed. Just adorable. Shows what a sweet doggy soul she is.

No problem! :D Chester is the red & white Toy Fox Terrier, Millie is the chubby black & white Jack Russell mix, Aneko is the old Shih Tzu and Abby is the Fox Terrier mix. :)

Chester & Millie will most likely be there, Chester for sure. Millie has major issues, so she may not come. She was abused and is a bit clingy in new situations. Abby will just be finishing her time in the crate and exercise has to be reintroduced slowly, so she can't come. :( Aneko is just too old and cranky to come!:p

Micki, I love all of the pics. What a great time they are having. They are all so cute!

Yes, I do miss her. I may be in over my head with her. I've fostered before, but I think I'm going to lose it when Abby goes to her forever home. She's so sweet, the perfect size, very smart and all my kids like her, even Millie! :eek:
