Last Monday was my birthday - my "50th" birthday. My crazy sister came from California (90 degree weather) to visit to help me celebrate. To celebrate my milestone, we had a major snowstorm. Here is my sister standing in my backyard:

Here she is standing next to the railing by the back deck:

My family took me out to dinner to celebrate and my sister and I wore shirts that said "When my sister and I are old, we shall wear purple!" Here we are with our cousin, Michael:

(Scary picture considering we are stone cold sober!)

We did threaten to search her when she left, she wanted to take Max and Muffin with her and it wouldn't have been hard, they about ran over her to get out the door when it was time for her to leave.

All in all, it was an OK occasion considering I've hit the big "50". Funny, I don't feel any different.

I can answer that one - it's a famous poem:

Warning - When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple
By Jenny Joseph

When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple
with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
and satin candles, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired
and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
and run my stick along the public railings
and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
and pick the flowers in other people's gardens
and learn to spit.
_
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
and eat three pounds of sausages at a go
or only bread and pickles for a week
and hoard pens and pencils and beer nuts and things in boxes.
_
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
and pay our rent and not swear in the street
and set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

I thought it was from a poem! :) I couldn't remember for sure, though!

There's actually a whole book called that! I can't wait to get it for my mom when she turns 50 this year. :)

Looks like you had fun! :)

You know, now you can join the "Red Hat Society". Women 59 and under wear pink hats and lavendar clothes, women 60 and up get to wear red hats and purple dresses.

Your as old as you feel Robin - I'm nearer 60 than anything else and I'm still 17 in my head!! I do keep saying I'm going to grow old disgracefully!

I MUST join the Red Hat Society!!
