Funny thing is that I saw a full-grown man riding one of those the other day!

Good luck! The younger they start, the more second nature it'll become. He'll be able to intuitively avoid many accidents.

That's cute, and I think it's great that he's sharing in hubby's hobbies. They will really have some great times in the garage and be able to bond over this. I'm also extremely glad to see he has a helmet on even though it's just a "toy" that he's on.

As you might know, I used to have a Harley and I never wore a helmet. It's not the law here in Illinois so I was one of the "rebels" who never wore a helmet. Well, ever since my parents were in a bad car accident and my dad was loony in the hospital for a few weeks because of a hit to his head, I told myself I would wear my helmet from that day forward. I only rode the bike once or twice after that, but I did wear my helmet and even though I don't believe the law should mandate that you wear one, I wish everyone would wear them. The thing that totally galls me is when I see a young kid on the back with dad. Dad has no helmet and neither does the kid. It's one thing for dad to make that decision for himself, but the kid is not old enough to be able to make a decision like that for him/herself and it should be mandatory for them to wear a helmet.

Anyway, didn't mean to go off on a rant about that, but we saw some pretty stupid kids the other night on our way home from the cat show. Two young guys - 18-20 or so - got on the interstate on their crotch rockets. Almost immediately one of them starts doing wheelies! Yes! Right on the interstate in heavy 70 mile an hour traffic!!! We finally got ahead of them but Terry was watching them in his mirror, and sure enough, about 5 minutes later he says "He just crashed!" Yep, pulled a wheelie and went too far over backwards! Terry immediately pulled over and ran to help while I called 911. Thankfully the kid was basically ok as he was running up to his bike at the same time Terry was, but the bike was totalled. The kid did complain about a sore leg or something. This kid was SO lucky!!! First of all he did have all the "body armor" on and a full face helmet, so between the two of those they probably save his life - not to mention the fact that the girl behind them was paying attention and was able to stop before she ran over him! If he had had a semi behind him going 70 mph, there is no way that kid would have survived. Stupid, stupid, stupid was all I could think. I just hope the kid learned some sort of lesson, but since he wasn't seriously hurt, he probably didn't. :(

Aaaaannyyyway, Tonya, I think it's great that your son is starting ut early. This way he can learn all the safety stuff right away and will be much more experienced by the time he gets a "real" bike. Good luck......;) :)
