Essex woman's 33-year-old cat may be world's oldest

An Essex woman is claiming to be the owner of the world's oldest cat.

Jean Stone from Jaywick says Whiskey is 33-years-old - or 231 in cat years.

She said: "I found him in a dustbin in East London on March 17, 1971. He was tiny. His eyes were closed and he had obviously just been born.

"I never imagined he would live this long, especially after such a horrible start."

The Sun says Whiskey, who has no front teeth, will celebrate by sleeping and eating Whiskas cat food.

Whiskey's 66-year-old owner reckons he should now have a place in the Guinness World Records book. "I saw something about long-living cats and I realised how old Whiskey is."

She's now hoping a vet can verify his age.

Guinness World Records currently say the oldest living cat is Kataleena Lady, a 27-year-old Burmese born on March 11, 1977, in Australia.
