Does anyone do Bikejoring?

Me and Nova are taking up this fun sport and I was wondering if anyone else does it. Since Nova has Chinook in her (maybe even a pur-bred) she LOVES to pull, so I thought this would be fun! I bought a harness and towline. Is there anything else we will need? Also, any tips? We've been working on the comands, she is getting the hang of them!

It's basicly "like" sled pulling. You put a sled harness on your dog and attach the towline to the front of your bike and let your dog pull you! Have you ever heard of cross country skieing with your dog or skiejoring? It's like that.

I've seen it but never had a name to go with it. I would like to try it with Layla because she loves to pull. We did it on rollerblades once and she loved it. Let me know how it goes!

I've done it, I don't anymore. Get good padding--knees, wrists, helmet--the whole nine yards!! It's fun, but if the dog decides to go off to the side or chase a squirrel, you have no way to stop it. I use a springer attachment now. Much safer and better control of the dogs. I haven't had a crash since I got the springer, even with the malamutes attached.

How do you know that Nova has Chinook in her for sure? I'm just wondering as that's a fairly rare breed. ;)

2. I email a breed specialist and he said "She looks pretty damn close." Meaning, yes, from the pics I sent him she looks exactly like one, infact, just like his dog Jamie. (she was a cutie, he sent me a pic!)


Also, on a website there are tons of pics of Chinooks that look EXACTLY like Nova, down to fur markings, height, weight and personlitly. She fits breed standard and has the personlitly that Chinook's are known to have. She has a pull drive, and a high prey drive (although many other dog's do) just like the chinook. So, am I 100% sure, no, but does that really matter? Nova LOVES to pull and she loves to run. To combine the two I am going to do bikejoring, they say even a Poodle can do it, so I don't see why my dog, who is assumed to be Chinook, or at least has the build of a Chinook, can't do it.

Glacier, I used a harness we have at home (it's not pull safty though) and Nova would run after lil critters who were in the yards, but only if we were going slow. Once we picked up the speed she didn't think about anything but the road. And after only one run with her on this harness, she did really well with leaving things, like there were dog's barking in a yard that she went after, I told her "On by" and she kinda got the idea. But, then on the way back I said "On by" and she didn't pay attention (we've been working on this command, I use it instead of Leave it.)

What kind of harness are you using and do you have a bungy-shock absorber section in your towline? I found it was easier to control and handle the bumps with bungy section line. I used my skijoring line.

On-by is a tough command to master. I use it with my sled team all the time. 98% of the time, they have it down, but sometimes it's like a foreign language to them!!:rolleyes:

AMEN to that!! LOL, Sometimes it's like Nova is right there, doing wonderful and she is doing GREAT, but then there is that every once and awile when I am like "On by" and she is like "No" LOL!

I don't want her to hate pulling because of this harness.

Thanx for the help. We are going out now to practice Gee and Haw. Something we should probly master before we go out bikejoring. ;) O, also, how do I know when Nova is contitined to run for awile? Last time we went running we ran maybe a half mile (long way for a doggie who only walks a mile every day) and she was pooped. It was definitly to far for her.

I see more Pit/Lab than anything else. I've seen plenty of websites with Chinooks, and I don't think Nova looks much like them. But eh, whatever. :p:D:p
