Names for mine always have to "fit". It is like they tell you what their name should be..

Had one I couldn't come up with a name for...My brother in law said, "He looks like a Rastus" and he DID!! That was his name.

Had another, female that a friend in Pensacola, Florida brought me that she selected for me at the pound.. Couldn't think of a name for her until I was on the way to take her to the vet. I told her "You needed a name, the vet is going to want on! You came from Pensacola and someone didn't think you were worth 2 cents" Bingo! PENNY! That was her name.

How about Chynna, would fit boy or girl.

all calico cats are female. It's genetically impossible for a calico to be male. My calico's name is Roxy, and the name fits her perfect. The cat would have to have 2 X chromosones to be calico. But only females have 2 X chromosones, males have 1 X and 1 Y.

It is not impossible, but VERY rare. We happen to have a male calico..Barney

Whoops, I just saw you said it was a male. How about Joseph "A Coat Of Many Colors"?:)

Wow, Barney's a looker! It's weird...I automatically associate that coloring with females, but Barney is very masculine looking.

Names...I like Joseph, I think it's perfectly suited to a male calico!

Storm-type names would probably be good too...Blizzard, Monsoon, Thunder, Cyclone...

Or there's the ever-useful "Patch"

:D

Or, since male calicos *are* so rare, how about Blue Moon or some such thing?

NO it is not impossible for a male to be a calico. I have known a couple and one was used in a breeding program. It is rare but not impossilble. One of them had the name Joseph, coat of many colors.
For a calico I like the names
Asia Plum
Calie-tude
Tude-a-lini
YRH--- your royal highness
Razz or Razzie

You will have to really see what she is like and what her personality is like. I am haveing a hard time coming up with something different for a solid black female.

Good luck with the name

Thanks everyone! After thinking it was impossible lol I called her and told her to check again :p and she said she was very sure LOL she also said that the kitten has more "down there" than her pure black female cat:o I just laughed at her and said "Ok...thanks" lol

Its also ok if it takes a while for a name to come to you. I adopted this cute little siamese/tortie mix from the shelter 20 years ago (wow - has it really been that long? ) - it took me three weeks to come up with the right name for her. I named her Lucy.

I loved the one someone suggested "Cricket"... Sorry, but Joseph beings a lot of wonderful memories that had a tragic end for me.

Male calicos do exist. There was one as COTD about a year ago. Genetically, they have two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome. This extra makes them sterile, and is usually lethal, but occasionally one survives.

Anyway, names. Hmm. For some reason Van Gogh comes to mind. A painted cat.

Tiger , George , Sibad , Leseter , Mister , or Whiskers . Scrappy was my pal , and would be a tribute to one of the nicest Cats , ever.

We had a calico cat when I was growing up and her name was simply "Calico". I always thought it was perfect.
