Okay...well I got a tattoo on the small of my back a few months ago and I wanted to get another [small-ish] one on my right hip/groin area.

I was thinking maybe a fairy-ish kind of thing, but I have no idea. Any suggestions? :D

If you like the fairy idea, feel free to post some pictures of ones you like! :D:D

Thanks in advance. :)

The fairy is cool!:D If I get tattoos, the first one I'd like to get is a small blue fairy:p

These are some I have found...please let me know what you think. :)

Not a fairy, but I love the design. I really like the blue flower. If I get anything like this one, I'd probably just get one big flower with the blue. :D

I really like the butterflies in this one...

Again, not a fairy...but I like it

Tinkerbell!! :D Of course, I'd get it without the name...;)

It depends where you get them. When I got mine on the small of my back, it hurt quite a bit. lol. But then again, I'm a wuss. I had to bite my hand when I got my belly button pierced. :p Well, I mean...I don't know...it's not really tons of pain, it's just weird feeling...:p

I guess areas on your hands, feet, ribs, etc hurt the most. And I read somewhere that you lower back, groin area, ankles, etc are right after that. Your calves, upper arms, shoulder blade, etc are the least sensitive.

I also heard somewhere that women who have been pregnant and gone through delivery said that the pain really isn't that bad. Hm...lol. ;):p

The second one looks cool! I like butterfly ones too, but I would get a dark butterfly.

I love tatoos, but I'm too afraid that it'll hurt alot. I'm even afraid to get my ears pierced:o lol

I have a ladybug tattoo on the back of my right sholder. I'll see if I can find a picture of it. It didn't hurt at all, and I am a whimp.

I like the last because it's different, but it wouldn't be for me. If I were to pick one of those for myself I would get the butterflies in the second picture.

I have a butterfly tattoo about the size of a quarter on the top of my foot. And a large tattoo on a lotus blossom and flames on my back.

I have a heart tattoo in the same area that I think you are wanting. My only suggestion is to make sure that it either is totally covered by a bathing suit, or totally exposed. Myself and 3 other girlfriends got matching tattoos in that area. Mine is hidden, one girl's shows completely, and the other two are half hidden. We think it looks tacky that you only see half the tattoo in a swimsuit, so you can't make out what it is.

My girlfriend has a collection of fairy tattoos, next time she comes to town, I'll snap some pics for you. She has at least 6 fairy tattoos that I can think of.

Brooke, when you go get the tattoo, and it starts hurting, make sure Josh is with you and bite his hand instead. Then all you will be thinking about is how funny Josh looks while you are biting the heck out of his hand! ;) hehehe:D

lol...he was not impressed by that suggestion. ;) He quickly slid his hand into his pocket. :p:D

Tonya, I know exactly what you mean...lol. When I went to Jamaica last year, I saw so many girls with tattoos like halfway there...lol. It was obnoxious. :p I'm getting mine right above the "panty-line" which is where all my swimsuit bottoms are just below. Oh! And I would love to see those pictures if you ever get a chance to take them! :D

Right now, I'm really leaning toward the butterflies in the second pic...I love them. Except...I kind of want to rotate them so they go horizontally instead of vertically. :)

I like these two. The first one I really like the colors are great. Plus I always like to think in the furture, even when your in you 50's / 60's you most likely won't out grow these.

A long time ago a frind of mine got a Snoopy tat., now he's in his 50's and it just looks silly on him. Just my 2 cents on it.

Yeah, I really love the colors in that one too...but I'm just worried I'll have to get touch-ups more often with that one. Eh, who knows. :p

haha...I got a Pluto [the Disney character] tattoo on the small of my back a few months ago and I'm already regretting it. I mean, I love it...but I know in a few years I won't think it's that cute anymore. :p

Brooke, the fairy tattoo sounds really cute! I hope you do get it, sounds like it would look really cool. I don't think you'd have to worry about touch ups so much as long as you didn't expose it to the sun all the time.

I have 8 tattoos and when our finances calm down after we are finished buying our house:) , I plan to get some more too.

As far as sensitivity goes, you are exactly right about what hurts the most. I was told this is because it hurts when the tat is being done right over a "bony" area, such as an ankle. When I have gotten them on my thighs or female parts above the waist:o , I barely felt any pain.

I don't plan on getting cartoon characters. I wouldn't want to be a grandmother and have my grandkids go "Bugs Bunny, who is that?" LOL I also don't get names of people put on me (significant others), although I think putting the names of relatives who have passed away as a tribute is acceptable.

i think the fairys are really great. Just try and make it yours. like change somethings about it.
I have a tat on the small of my back that is a tribal(i found on line) What i did was turned it upside down and put hearts instead of tear drops and made it color. and the other on i found in a tatoo parlor. it is on my ankel, a butterfly I put some like ribbon around the bottom of it and changed the colors. so try and make it yours not something someone else has know what i mean? I am gonna try and find some pics of mine. good luck finding one. I want a fairy on the top of my foot.

How long have you had the one on your foot? I always wanted to get a tortise there but i was told they fade very fast in that area.

just wanted to ad I love tatoos, but i dont have nearly enough money to get even half of what i want. I only have 3, a small wolf print above my ankle, a large dragon above my knee & a nice tribal piece around my upper arm (but not completely around my arm, there is about a half inch gap)

I've had it for 8 years, and it's just now faded. It's time for me to redo it. I'm waiting until we go on strike at work, so that I can wear sandals while it heals.

yay tattoos! haha I have 2 medium size (I guess you could say lol) right now, and have 2 large ones Im dying to get. But they are both just rough ideas in my head right now. the one I want the most I just have a (very basic) concept for, and its going to be fairly large, painful and expensive. lol so I need to go to an artist and have them sketch out an idea. anyhoo..

yes tattoos are painful. I say, dont believe people who say it barely hurt! lol they are just trying to sound tough. ;) people describe it different ways; like a (ton of) bee sting(s), like scratching a bad sun burn, etc. but basically it feels like being poked several times by tiny needles which is exactly what it is. lol its irritating to say the least. however, in my opinion its worth it, (at least it should be, or perhaps you shouldnt be getting a tattoo..) and a lot of people learn to enjoy/crave it. they are definitely addicting.

and yes, the closer to the bone, the more it hurts. senstive tissue such as the stomach and inside of the arm are also extremely painful. the outter arm, calf, etc are the least painful. I have one in the small of my lower back and it was excrutiating and Ive always thought I had a pretty high pain tolerance. but the one on my upper arm I barely felt (except the few parts that were on that senstive inner arm tissue).

I wanna see pics of your guys' tattoos!

lower back, done aug 12 03, took about 1 hr:

my arm, done oct 20 03, took about 90 mins:

All of my friends and I are goin to get them together soon. Winter is getting a snowflake, Jody is getting a fourleaf clover, Jen hasn't decided and I can't make up my mind. I want something original. I think a cute little honeybee because my name means honeybee in Greek or a little butterfly. We wanted to get ones the said friends in Chinese but other friends of ours took our idea. I am currently designing a few to see what I would want. I want something that I won't be bothered by in a few years and can easily hide when I finally start teaching. I'm thinking on my hip in the same place Brooke is or my lower back...my problem is I can't make my mind up.

I had to chime in as tattoos are one of my favorite subjects (just following dogs, of course :D)

I have 4 tattoos... they all hurt at least a little, but there is a definite change in the pain and severity of the pain depending on where it is located.

As for advise of what tattoo to get, I'm always uneasy about doing that. They are so incredibly intimate, personal, and they will be with you forever. IMO, getting a tattoo should be a decision YOU put a lot of thought into. I'm not trying to sound rude, lol, I just think it's something that needs to be decided upon yourself.

Here's a few pics of my tattoos. They were all done by Mike Gardner (the same artist who did veegan's tattoos - he's fantastic)

That's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that butterfly tattoo. The colors really are beautiful, but you can tell by the red around the tattoo that it's very fresh. I'm sure even within a month to colors would dull significantly. It's still beautiful. I want to get my leg tattoo touched up and I haven't even had it 2 years.

This is why I haven't done it yet. I want it to be special to me, and I just haven't found that special one yet.
Here is another one I am seriously considering on my lower back. I thought of just having it writen in a pretty font.

It means..."I dreamt I was a butterfly"
There is just something so beautiful and special about the symbolism of the butterfly to me.

We're all so different and into different things that I don't think we would ever agree on one so we are just goin to do it together so it will always be that special memory together. Plus I have to get it in an easily hidable place because of teaching...I have to be careful as they are not widely accepted in the teaching profession.

thank you. yeah I think its best to have the artist design something unique. thats what I did for my back and what Im going to do for my next 2. Id never want to see my same tattoo on someone else.

yeah white fades fast doesnt it? Ive heard red does too. Id like to get my back touched up a bit too, make the colours blend a bit more..

I agree with rubymutt, I believe tattoos should get a lot of consideration. it seems too many people get them for the wrong reasons. (this is just a general statement/observation, certainly not aimed toward any of you). all of mine (including those I havent gotten) have very powerful and lasting meanings that I know I will never regret. I believe in getting tattoos for you and no one else. they are yours, they are very personal, very empowering, very meaningful, etc, you shouldnt get a tattoo just to show it off, I think thats where people end up regretting them. IMO

I agree with those who said that getting a tattoo is a personal choice. That being said my tattoo is a plain one that I'm sure thousands and thousands of people have in one shape or another. I have a paw print on my back left shoulder area. I love it and think it's the best thing I've ever done.

I do want more. In fact my brother and I are going to get tattoos together. See he and I share the same birthday, only 5 years apart. So since he just turned 18 I told him we should go get tattoos together (he's wanted one for awhile).

This is what he wants (on his back).

I'm going to get the symbol that's in the middle of the design as it is the pisces symbol. I'm not sure where though, I'm kinda leaning towards on my ankle.
