i have wanted a second dog for a long time and my parents just dont want one. we were fostering a small mix for a few weeks for a friend.we found her a home. we were going to keep her,but she was in heat and she peed on my parent's bed 3 times!they were done with her when she did that.

now here's my delima.i LOVE great danes and other big dogs, but my parents like small mop dogs like yorkies, schnauzers, pomerainians, maltees, shih tzu, etc. i like really small dgs like ones i can carry around my purse.i was talking to my dad and all i really need to do is talk my mom into letting me have another dog. so this is what it's down to and i dont know what kind of dog would be good for me.

it's has to be small (pref. under 10 lbs)
has to be cute, that's all my mom cares about.lol
easy to train,i am an outdoorsy person and i woud like a hyper dog.

that's all i can think of,what do you think?(i have a pom mix already)

My vote is for a broken coated Jack Russell. Cute and hyper!!!

Rat Terrier or Jack Russel Terrier.

Basically...any terrier.

how about visiting the shelter? I think that would be good for you & your parents. there are many dogs waiting to be adopted!

OMG! He reminds me so much of a dog my mom and dad had. His name was Scottie, he looks so much like that dog except he was black with alittle white on his chest.

My sugestion (after the shelter of course) would be a Papillon, they fit what you want to a T. :)

I also say go to the shelter. Visit it often, there's bound to be a 'small mop dog' that you and your parents fall in love with!

Since you sound like you don't care I agree with others and say go to a shelter. They often have puppies, if that's what you want. Plus, its so satisfying knowing you saved a life. ;) You mentioned that you like some big dogs, but also like small purse dogs. Well, I have a JRT mix from a shelter. He's bigger than what you are looking for, about 20 lbs, but he is the biggest little dog in the world. He acts like a big tough dog, but is still small enough to sit in a small car for rides or sit on your lap. Just my 2 cents.

the shelter is ALWAYS the first place ill look. we saw a Papillon at a petstore the other day.my mom loved it,but i would never buy anything from a petstore!!! oh now that i remember i took both my parents to a petstore once.they both like pembrke welsh corgis.i like them too.

here are the breeds i've narrowed it down to....
Papillon
pembroke welsh corgi
chihuahua(longhaired)
mix(my pref.)
another pom

OH, I just thought of another one. I think Chinese Crested are so cute and small. It's the dog from "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days", if you've seen it.

I think Papillons are quite active. I'm starting to really like them and would one day love to have one as an agility dog. :D

My vote, shelter as well. Although, around here, it's hard to find a small dog. Let alone, an active, longer haired, small dog. Good luck though!

i talked to my dad and we decided that either a miniature schnauzer or yorkshire terrier would be what my mom would let me have. we have had two yorkies before and my parents had a mini schnauzer before i was born. i wish i could adopt from the shelter, but ya know how some people have a thing for pruebreeds. unfortinatly my parents are two of those people. but n e wayz, does anyone know of any responsible yorkie or mini schnauzer breeders in indiana or illinois.
(adult or puppy)
thanks:D

normally I wouldn't recommend a yorkie, they are usually hard to train and housebreak. Since you've had them before you know if they are right for your family.

I would agree that a papillon sounds best for your family. Soo cute. Active but not too hyper (a good house dog, but still fun outside). From what I've heard (my friend has one) and red they aren't difficult to train.

I personally love a min pin. I think they're cute (especially without their ears cropped). They are active, yet mine is so sweet and loves to cuddle. Oh and sooo easy to train, at least my Charlie is.

I agree that you should find a little dog at the shelters. ^_^ You could try to convince your parents. Or you could beg! :D

What kind of dogs do you have now, Lute? And how many? I think that finding a compatable dog for your current dogs is the most important thing to consider when choosing a new one.

hello,welcome to pettalk!!!

i agree labs are very good dogs, but if you read the whole topic,we decided on a yorkshire terrier or miniature schnauzer. i would LOVE to have a big dog,but my parents aren't BIG dog people.thanks for your input though.
