For my 3000th post, I thought I'd share a few pics of Aneko. Yes, I said Aneko! She's getting better with the camera and it helps that I've gotten sneakier so that she doesn't always see me taking her pic. ;)

These are pics of her when we first got her and pics from today. She's put on several pounds and even though she didn't look thin in her first pictures, she was. She just had much longer hair than she does now. She was all hair, saggy skin, and bones. Her hips & ribs protruded to the point that I felt the need to explain her situation to the groomer the first time we took her in. I was afraid they would think we were starving her. :(

I can barely find her hips and ribs now. :) Her skin still sags, but hey, we all have to face that! :p She only has a few teeth so her lip sags due to bone loss. She does take medication for alzheimer's every day and it's made a huge difference in her behavior and especially her response to me. I've grown to deeply love this little old lady. :)

This is her when she came to us in June of last year:

Thanks, guys. :) Doesn't she look different? We were looking at her new pics tonight and I thought we'd look at her old pics and compare. Even I was surprised by the difference.

She's getting to be so sweet. She's still scared of the strangest things, like the laundrey basket and coughing, but she's coming along.

She looked so sad and so beat down by life in the first pics. :(

There is such a difference in Aneko now than the other pictures, I don't know the story behind how you got her but I do know she is a beauty now, you have done an amazing job with her. Do you know how old she is?

I didn't know dogs got alzheimer's! How does a dog act that has it?

That Chester and Millie looks really good too! They are both so sweet looking!

Willie, she was living in a cage at a vet’s office for months. A client of theirs had found her wondering the streets and took her to their office. She was a horrible matted mess, so they shaved her all over as best as they could. No one ever claimed her so they did a dental on her and vaccs and ran tests and found out she was healthy as a horse.

We thought a few months ago that we might have to put her to sleep. We noticed her peeing in the house, wandering aimlessly, staring at the walls for HOURS. One day she stood outside and stared at the shed for 2 hours. I kept looking out to check on her and she never even sat down. During the period that she was having symptoms she became terrified of me, so I left her out there as long as I could stand it. It really freaked her out if I went near her, and she flipped out if I picked her up. :(

She takes Anapryl now and it’s made her a totally different dog! She’s starting to sit with me and she plays with Millie in an odd way again. No more staring at walls or sheds, though she is still petrified of the laundry basket.

No idea how old she is, but we estimated between 14 & 16 then, so around 15-17. Either that or she’s had a really hard life and she’s only 8. (Inside joke between hubby and I). :D

How sad for her, and happy that you took her in. I bet that was a strange site to see her just staring at wall and the shed like that. I guess at first you wanted to see what was so interesting about the shed!

That is an amazing story with a very good ending.

She's looking so much better, so much healthier and happier. I have never heard of an Alzheimer's diagnosis for a dog, but my vet had talked to me before about canine dementia or basically, senility in dogs. My Cody had some milder symptoms as he got older. He would cry and get anxious when I left the room for a moment and various other mild things that were totally unlike him in his youth. The vet suggested St. John's Wort for him, but I remember him talking about medications out there for it too. He said there was more and more research going on about how to help it.

Well, sorry for the rambling there. She is looking wonderful, and congrats on your 3000+ posts now! :D

You have done a great job with Aneko. You are a wonderful person to have taken this little doggie in and given her a good home and brought her back to health. God was smiling on her the day you found her. Congratulations on that and also your 3000th post!!:) :)
